Anyone else like EVGA?

I had posted in the Holy crap, it worked! Dead video card resurrected! post about one of my 7900GT cards.

A few years ago I bought a socket 939 system from ibuypower.com, it was essentially my first PC, and what gave me the bug with computers in general. It had an AMD Athalon 64 x2 4200+ CPU on an Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard, with 2 EVGA 7900GT cards in SLI.

Well after about a year and a half or so one of the cards died, and has sat in a box in my closet until the above mentioned thread came around. Now while that particular trick didn't work, I wasn't too worried about it because I had retired that system to my daughters room to be mainly a TV, that housed a bunch of kid's movies, so one card was more than enough.

About 2 days after I tried the little oven trick, the other 7900GT decided to die on me. I decided this time instead of baking it, I would contact EVGA, to see if I had any kind of warranty with it.

First they asked me to register the card online, and then upload my original invoice from ibuypower.com. Once I had done both of those things, they emailed me back and said that they had approved for me to start an RMA of the card, all I had to do was pay to ship it to them.

I was pleasantly surprised, because while since that first computer I have had 4 EVGA video cards, and I registered them all as soon as I bought them, and even stepped up 2 of those, I didn't expect anything from the 7900GT because it was something that I had never registered, and had bought so long ago that I didn't think they'd even take my email lol.

Now I just wait for it to be shipped back to me, and I wonder if I will get the same model card, or maybe a small upgrade?

Either way, I am very pleased with EVGA's customer service, they had no reason to give me an RMA and replace the card, but they chose to anyway. :)

Now if they would only do a double lifetime warranty like XFX and start making some ATI cards, they would be perfect lmao

I'm miffed with their step up program.
I checked the prices stepping up from a GTX260 about once per week and they were always through the roof, especially for vanilla cards.
Completely pointless.
(I'm in the UK in case that matters)

No beef with them apart from that.

I agree, their step-up program for the most part is a joke...prices are way to high, even here in the states. I stepped up twice, and paid a lot to do it lol.

their customer service and RMA is definately top notch, step-up prices are atrocious though. it's actually cheaper for me to sell my card for less online and just put some money towards new one from somewhere like newegg.

If I can't find the card I want from XFX (because of their double lifetime warranty) my second and final choice will always be EVGA. :)

I like the step up program myself since i can not afford to purchase a gtx280 out right I get a gtx 260 then month later step up if i decide too. Also I like the evga 780i mobo. awesome oc'er. I know the step up is more expensive over all but some people like me can only afford to get higher end cards this way.

EVGA and XFX are the only brands I buy. I dont care if its 20-30 cheaper for a brand with crap for customer support. I like to have peace of mind where if my cards ever has a problem, it'll be taken care of in timely and hassle-free manner.

EVGA was great in handling a rebate where the vendor sent me an upgraded card from the one I ordered, but didn't update the invoice. They were also quick to fix an issue I had while trying to StepUp on the last day.

But I agree that StepUp isn't usually that helpful unless you bought your hardware at full retail price, and intend to buy a different item at full retail to replace it. All other things being equal, I prefer XFX's double-lifetime warranty over EVGA's StepUp.

I'm an evga fan, I like them. Never've had a problem with their CS, have stepped up just fine and paid $10 to "upgrade" from a 8800GTS 512 to the 9800GTX. The key it to buy a card when they are really expensive, so when you stepup later, the next new card should be around the same price and thus, "free". Don't wait a year and pay half the price, and then stepup and pay the other half.

But I'd also look at XFX or BFG both because I've heard good things and that they have lifetime warranties.

If I was buying ATI, I'd only look at XFX.

I have purchased bfg, evga, xfx and asus gpus. Not only was teh eVGA staff and support the most helpful but I got my rebate cheque in hand 5 weeks after delivery of product. XFX was 10-12 weeks, asus was 12+ weeks. eVGA ftw!

or you could use better judgment and just not overpay to begin with. most of time the step up program is a joke compared to using common sense and just looking for the best retail price.

so when evga warranty replaces your card with a newer model, are these used cards that people hav stepped up from? im just wondering what they do with the cards after they get them from someone stepping up. they cant sell them as new...

they send them to Nvidia for a rebranding. :p

I've had a couple of mainboards from EVGA. Plain X58 and the Classified NF200.
I'm currently using their Classified.
Support is excellent.
I used their Step-up to get my Classified, it was painless, took one week exactly.

I think they have a good forum, geared mainly at people who own EVGA products and their guys are all over the place helping out. They have a pretty good selection of custom made stuff for their products. They are pretty innovative.

Their customer service is good. In the US and people speak english!

I use BFG for my GPUs and have never been disappointed. The BFG Trade-up is the same as step-up, and in my experience a little faster and cheaper. I would not waver from BFG for my video needs, but EVGA tends to make stellar mainboards that OC very well.

You will probably get a 9800 class video card back in your RMA.

EVGA's customer service was a bit rough around the edges at first but in the end they totally impressed me. Long story short, sent in two 8800gtx's, got back GTX260's. I think they ultimately want happy customers and sometimes they do go above and beyond, in my particular case they went above and beyond and really helped me out. I recommend EVGA to friends all the time.

while i'm a big fan of the company, one thing i don't like is the lack of non-stock cooling. almost all their cards come with the stock coolers, except for that period where they put dual slot coolers on cards that didn't really need it, like the 9600gso.

also, i'm a bit upset by how they are offering lifetime warranty on fewer and fewer cards these days. i can't find a gts 250 that has a lifetime warranty.

My guess: Refurb if necessary for those that require an RMA or re-sell them as oem cards to developing countries for a tidy profit. Either way they probably come out ahead.

their bstocks dont cost much less than the egg. id go with egg for the piece of mind.

anyway, my next card will def be an evga 300 series. unless of course ati actually puts out something competitive in which case id get xfx. definitely some good brands.

I <3 EVGA like most everyone else and I've had a few of their parts and really great experiences so far.

Let me see...

7900GTX
8800GTX
(2) GTX 285
EVGA X58

I would have EVGA GTX 295s right now, but I just got an incredible deal on my BFGs.

IMy last 5 video cards were evga I dont buy any other brand because of the lifetime warranty. I dont really trust their motherboards though,,,

if i purchase anything on a brick and mortar deal i would NOT get evga.

example, my 680i died, bought at microcenter, left the receipt at the gf's house...in california told me i was SoL. kind of miffed me.

other issues is advanced rma, it should be easier to find, select and make available, similar to western digital. I don't mind the premium to have a system up and running faster.

Never had a problem with them for the newegg or frys online orders I place.

but like i said if i buy brick and morter i will only buy bfg or xfx

Same here. I really like XFX and EVGA for their warranties and product qualities.

I used to really like BFGTech, but they come in third on my list now.

...and PNY, the "LJN" of video cards, lol.

Love em, When my 7900 GT CO died they replaced it with an 8800 Ultra.

I switched to BFG for myself and the office recently

their trade up isn't all that great, their forums went to the suck with amd vs nvidia posts, and all kinds of QQ and drama queens and drama queens who wanted to be moderators and blah blah, and once i went bfg i found out they have a service centre with a Canadian mailing address.

niiiiiceI didnt know that! Maybe there is room for BFG in my heart! Oh Canada!!!
