Anyone Beat F.E.A.R. yet?

Obviously Spoilers.
Basically, Alma was Harlan Wade's daughter and it was apparent from a very young age that she was "gifted" with psychic abilities and a few other neat tricks. It was decided that they would use her to breed genetically altered super soldiers that would hopefully retain some of her psychic abilities. Fettel was the first prototype, but he wasn't a completely success. I believe he was the failed "Icarus" project, and that he was a test tube baby, more of a clone of Alma then a son. I guess Harlan got the bright idea that the super solider would need to gestate in Alma, that to gain her more desirable abilities she would need to carry the child to term. This bright idea was dubbed the "Origin" project and it is how you were conceived. You were Alma's child and that's why you share a link with her throughout the game and I believe that's where your "super reflexes" came from. If you sit through the end credits you'll hear a conversation that says you were a "complete success".
If any of this is wrong or off, forgive me, I've pieced most of it together from what I was presented with in the game and refined it by reading a few messageboard posts. It is by no means 100% accurate but it gives you an idea of what was going on.

The story is cliched but I thought it was much easier to follow than most other 1st person shooters. It's kind of like a mix of akira, ringu, and doom. these are spoilers obiviously

She taps into peoples minds with her psychic powers, controlls them etc. That's where the FEAR guy comes in. He may or may not be the son of this psychic super being (hense his bullet time ability(. I didn't pick up on it and I think they leave that open. Thats a bit of the story I know I left a lot of holes but I don't want to write everything out. It's kind of a complicated story.

Also, when you kill Fettel I imagine she's not too pleased with you. It's important to point out that anything Fettel does might as well be attributed to Alma, because she controls him throughout the entire game I believe. This is evident in his first conversation with you when he says something to the effect of "I remember him, but are they my memories or hers? I can't tell anymore". Fettel is merely an extension of Alma, she can control his mind, but she can't control you and that scares her. You can see into her mind at times throughout the game as well, and that also puts her on edge. So really Fettel doesn't want you dead, and even though she seems malevolent I hesitate to assume Alma wants you dead either. She seems pretty powerful and I would think she could waste you easily, but for some reason she doesn't. Her motives aren't entirely clear, but that's probably due to the fact that she's entirely insane.

F.E.A.R is a military group who fights things that are not normal.
This one guy who is psycick controls a whole army with his powers. Apparently he is one of three people who is born from this psycick women. You are one of them. You just don't know it until the end of the game.
Some crazy lady open a vault that held one of the three children who was born. Now this little girl is influencing her brother to let her out. That's why he goes crazy and eats people.
The only part I'm not sure was if the little girl died in there. I remember in the game they said that she died in there 6 years or 6 days later. That might explain why you see her at the end on the helicopter. She might have been a ghost and not alive the whole time.
IMO the story would have been better if I wasn't fighting troopers 99% of the time. Good story and bad game play makes for one confusing game.

I just beat it and I thought it was a fun ride..
..and as mentioned , you are Alma's son that was taken from her right when she gave birth to you at the age of 15..
sounds like they really messed with her with all their expiraments and no wonder she's a train wreck.
..story reminded me alot of Akira ..even the orb type prison cell that was used to hold Alma... and Akira and Alma both start with the letter A ...hmmmm
I didnt get why the Wade chick had to die tho ..her dad I can see gett'n it , but not sure why his daughter.
F.E.A.R. II , I hope, will touch on some of the character you plays up bringing ... Alma's Tetsuo of sorts...

you guys above are right. its not my computer but it is that i didnt have my volume up enough. I just felt that there was too much background noise when they were talking about the information on the laptop. When you heard the messages on the telephone however, it was nice and clear.
Next time, use subtitles. Can run off and still read what they blab about.

I always saw it as the psychic trying to force the FEAR operative into something he believed because she was afraid of him and his abilities. Does she actually ever say for a fact he's her son (I know she hints at it and does actually saw something like you're her son at one point..) and that the other guy is his brother? I thought they left that part kind of open for interpretation by saying "he" and not every pointing out that it is actually you. The ending makes you think she just head fucked you but maybe because he survived the blast she protected him?

Damn this games story is confusing. Makes me wanna go back and play it agian to get the story right but the idea of killing all those boring soldiers again make me sick to my stomach.

A bit like Oedipus then isnt it????? Hate your brother, kill your mother eventually.....the scientist Wade the older is your grandfather.....creepy bastard used his own daughter to create the "super soldier" and then locked her in "the vault" except when he "needed"her. Its really a sick story if you think about it. Someone PLEASE explain those dark ghostie things to me that showed up at the end????That was a waste. They should have all been heavy armor....but I guess since Fettle was dead there was no one to "control" them???Beserk heavily armored guys would have been better.

I beat the game as well and what i got of the story was.
You are an agent for a government organization called FEAR. You have to neutralize a man named Fettel who is the commander of a psychic army. Fettel has seemed to gone insane, but really Alma is influencing Fettle to due her bidding. Alma is Harlan Wades daughter who had telekinetic and various other psychic powers. The women you hear in the beginning of the game(forgot her name so we will call her Lucy). From my understanding Lucy, talked Harlan into using Alma in an experiment called Icarus. The Icarus program was created to make a super human capable of telekinesis and various psychic powers.That is how you were created. They placed a fetus inside of Alma and hoped that Alma would give you psychic powers. Thus you were created and had the ability to slow time down and were able to see into Almas thoughts. You were the first prototype. Since you did not have psychic abilities, Project Icarus was retired. Then began Project Origin, it this time around they did something differently to create a super human using Almas DNA(I am not quite sure the details of how Fettel was created but it had to do with Alma giving birth to you. After this Alma began to exhibit some strange behavior. She would cause various psychic occurences and kill people. She was then locked in the Vault. Back to Fettel. Project Origin was going well until Fettel snapped( Opening Cinematic for game). Alma was contacting him and forcing him to kill everyone. That is when you were called in to investigate. As the game progresses more and more about Origin and Icarus is revealed. You also have visions of the first thing you remember. Towards the end of the game you kill Fettel. By doing so really pisses off Alma. Alma was alreaddy afraid of you to begin with because she could not control you. You then reach The Vault. Harlan Wade is telling you that Alma has goine through enough and that Harlan is going to release her. He then releases Alma which that you just learned that she has been thought to be dead for 6 years. Alma seems to think that Harlan releasing was a nice gesture, but isnt going to cut it. She kills Harlan. Then she is gone. Now you must destroy the facility and get rid or Alma once and for all. You then cause an iminent meltdown. You must get out of the facility. You fight your way through the facility against demon like mental projections created by Alma. When you are about to escape the facility and jump out onto the street you have your final vision. This vision shows you how you born and shows you that Alma is actually Alma Wade, Harlans Daughter and that you are her son. Then the vision ends by you jumping out the window just in time for the meltdown.

I'm working on my second playthrough at the moment, and I just heard them speak of another project, codenamed Perseus. I'm curious as to where you guys found out that Fettel was the second prototype, because I was under the impression that you came after him. I have no concrete evidence of this, but the Origin project was said to be the last one in the game, and I seem to recall the camera focusing on a file on the floor with the word Origin on it after you were born. I took this to mean you were the Origin project and that Fettel was an earlier prototype from either the "Icarus" or "Perseus" projects. Is there some part that conradicts this assumption, and if so where should I look for it in the game?

Alma Wade, Harlan Wade's Daughter was found to physic abilities, they realized that she was very sensitive to the negitive emotions of people, so she was placed into a coma a day before her 8th birthday, and put in "The Vault".
When she was around 15, Harlan Wade genetically altered a fetus and put it in Alma to gestate. The results were YOU and Paxton. For whatever reason you were placed in another program (which you were not aware of) and Paxton was the Prototype they plained to use in the Percious Project.
They placed Alma back into a coma and she remained there for a a few more years. When Paxton was 10 years old Alma influenced him and he went on a rampage (killing a few people) This was known as the "Synchronicity Event". Once they realized Alma was telepathicly communicating with Paxton, they freaked out and shut down the Origin Project. Alma Died 6 days later. They simply closed the vault and left it closed.
Genevieve Alistien (the President of Armatec) decided that the Origin site was a waste not to be used. She reopened the vault and sent in a team. This awakened an evil, that was dead 18 year old Alma. The team was killed and the vault resealed! But Alma is now awake and projecting the image of her self at 8, She takes control of Paxtons mind.
Paxton (with Alma's influence) started searching for the original members that made up the Origin Team, in an effort to find out where they were keeping Alma. He finds the one guy in the gheto building at the start, that just so happens to be the building that you were born in. (you learn this by from Paxton as he informs you "you were born here").
At the waste treatment plant you come across another body, that of another person who knew about Origin. Paxton then moves on the Armatec HQ to get the exact info he needs to find the Origin site.
He finds the under ground compound and proceeds to try to free Alma, at the same time Harlan Wade, is trying to cover up Origin with the help of ATC security. Also why Harlan Kill Norman Mapes (he knew to much).
Unbeknowance to you, you are doing exactly what Genevieve Alistien want's, working for her by trying to destroy Origin. They know that the Origin Project has created an outcome that they weren't expecting (Alma Wade causing another Synchronicity Event). When you destroy the Origin site, you have saved her the trouble. Harlan didn't want it destroyed because he realized the power that Alma had and he most likely felt bad for doing this to his own daughter, which is why he tryed to free her.
The phone call at end of the credits informs you that YOU (Prototype 1) has proven a great sucsess!

very good explanation, but what about alma climbing on the heli at the of the game? Is she still around? or was it just a hallucination from such a powerful experience? my guess is it was just added for no reason like all those other horror movies, just so the ending is not completely resolved.
