anybody use the nvidia dvd decoder?

Probably the best quality decoder out there currently. A substantial improvement in image quality over WinDVD and PowerDVD. However, I have a 6800 GT, which means I'm using the built in hardware decoder along with their codec.

That said, there is a 30-day trial you can download from NVidia's website to test it out. Give it a spin. If you like it, then you can purchase the activation code.

Bottom line, I paid for it and will not look back.
 
Concur, the nVidia DVD decoder is *easily* the best out there right now for quality. Even aside from the hardware acceleration on the 6x00-series GPUs, it does some pretty neat tricks to clean up the DVD image.

Anandtech did an article on the "PureVideo Technology", most of it GeForce 6x00-series specific, but with a HEALTHY chunk of it dedicated to the DVD decoder.

Remember, when they are talking about the DVD decoder, ALL graphics cards can do those features - even ATI cards - it just gets some minor hardware acceleration (reduced CPU usage) on the GeForce 6x00-series.

Paired with WMP10 (it's not a player, just a decoder), it's easily the best package out there right now.
 
Yeah, I have. It has awesome DVD playback quality. There's a longer thread in the nvidia forum. You don't have to buy the NV DVD decoder to clean up the image. You can use Zoom Player + the CPU intensive ffdshow to do almost the same thing. IMO, the PureVideo decoder is better because it offloads the task to the video card.

It's also kind of a rip off for the gold (adds DD5.1/DPL II decoding) and platinum (adds DD5.1/DPL II/DTS decoding) versions for $30 and $50, respectively. The plain bronze version is also kind of overpriced: $20. You can buy a commercial DVD decoder (PowerDVD 5.0) for under $5 shipped from pricewatch.
