They want 750 pounds for the Dell are you sure? What a rip off the pound is worth a lot more than the Dollar, last time I looked the exchange rate was $1.78 to the pound. It would be cheaper to get someone in the States to buy one ship it and pay the V.A.T.

What a scam Dell should be ashamed.
 
That is still cheaper than it costs in most places in Europe.
DELL Finland are selling it for 1,378 euro + shipping.

That is $1745 or £954

A ripoff? I think so too. Any places in USA that will ship monitors abroad? It would probably work out cheaper to take the tax on the chin.
 
The only problem with shipping to from the US is the dead pixels and backlighting problems. And anytrhign warrenty related.

This country is a rip off for just about everythign :p

Just wish our wages reflected the higher living costs.
 
Yes the biggest problem with importing from abroad is if you get stuck with a lemon.
Will the respective company in your own country honour your rights properly? Or will they simply tell you to send it back to the place of purchase?

I just bought 2 Dell 2001FP's from the Dell.co.uk site for £1411.96 in total using the £100 off £1499+ voucher. Normally they would have been £1511.96 in the sale. In fact, they should have been approx. £1762 if I didn't buy at sale prices.

Anyhow, after ordering I checked out eBay and saw someone selling some 2001FP's for £649. He has 513 feedback so I thought why not, and offered him £1220 for 2 of them inc. shipping which he accepted.

The monitors were supposed to be delivered today, which they were and the couriers called but no one was in to take the packages, so I'll have to wait until Friday now :(

I then called Dell to try and cancel my order, but they kept saying we will give you discount if you keep the order. It seems like they DON'T want you to cancel an order when it's in production. So I said I wasn't interested etc. as I had already seen them cheaper elsewhere, and the guy asked me how much I was getting them for. I said £1200, so he said he would give me a £200 discount. I said no, since I had already bought them off eBay, so he kept coming back with incremental offers which I kept refusing. In the end he offered me 20% off, which took the total down to around £1150, which is about £575 each inc. VAT and shipping which I thought was reasonable so I accepted.

To cut a long story short, I now have 4 2001FP's headed my way.

So I guess the moral of the story is, place an order with Dell, wait until it goes into production, and then call them to cancel. I'm guessing if you bargain with them you can get about 20-30% off.
