Any tips on 7950 memory OCing?

I've managed core clocks of 1250 and 1.26v with complete stability, but I can only get the memory up to 1450 before I start to have stability issues. Oddly enough, I see significant increase in performance all the way up to 1450. I was under the impression that memory usually ran into a "soft cap" where performance started to drop off as error correction kicked in before becoming unstable.

Any idea what's going on? The card performs just fine as is, but I'm wonder what's up with the memory. Still higher clocks than reference 7970 by a decent margin, but it seems that it's behaving very oddly. Is it worth trying to tweak memory voltage to see if I can get a bit more out of it, or just settle for the fact that I won the silicon lottery on the core, but lost on the memory?
 
It won't hurt to mess with the memory voltage a little. Afterburner has pretty tame limits by default so the risk should be minimal as long as you have a card that actively cools the memory(GDDR5 can get pretty warm).
 
Yeah just a little voltage on the mem goes a long way from the testing that I did. If you got that good on the core you should be good to go on the mem. The OC edition has a heat sink on the vram so you should be fine.
 
It seems that at 1700mv the best I can keep stable in kombustor is 1500. A small improvement. I'll try it out in a game to see if it's actually stable, but I have a feeling that I might just have bum memory on the card. It just seems odd that the GPU would be binned so high (better than pretty much all the 7970s that [H] has tested), but the memory so low by comparison.

I guess I shouldn't complain too much, my GPU clocks are higher than what most of the 7970s I've seen tested could manage, even if the memory is a couple ticks off by comparison.
