Unfortunately my gut tells me that my dad's C300 128GB drive may be on its way out. Are there any diagnostic tools that can be run to tell if it has any issues? He is running Win7 on a new i7 2600k build, if that matters.
He had a Rev 1 P8P67 Pro. However, it has been replaced with the B3 stepping now. Here are his specs followed by the symptoms:
Win 7 Professional
C300 128GB FW: 0006
i7 2600k (non-oc'd)
P8P67 Pro
8GB Corsair Vengeance
PC Power and Cooling 750W
When in Firefox (3.6) the PC will randomly lock up for a few seconds at a time. It will eventually recover itself within 10 seconds. However, he has explained to me yesterday that now he is getting lock ups, where the screen goes to the white/transparent because the computer isn't responding and Windows reports what sounds like a STOP error, however it does NOT blue screen.
He has also had hard locks to where he had to force the computer off by holding the power buttons because the system wouldn't respond.
However, when gaming, such as counter strike or call of duty, everything appears fine. No lock ups that he has seen yet. One would think that gaming is a lot more intensive than FF browsing, thus should cause more issues - but it doesn't.
Most of the issues appear to be in FireFox so I uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. The only other thing I can attempt is uninstalling FireFox 3.6 and installing FireFox 4.0 just to rule out the program. However, these "Recovered from a serious error: Code X:0000__" are making me think it's hardware related.
I also noticed a few times when using the PC that I could be trying to do something on the desktop and it will lock up for about 5-7 seconds. The cursor will just be frozen until it recovers.
Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated! He's getting frustrated as I'm sure you can all understand. He has his new build and wants to claim it's awesome but is having all of these issues :/.
