• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.

Any REAL benefit?

I just got my final part for my new system and I'm just about finished backing up my data before I format the drive. I'm going to keep my current HD (about 6 months old) an 80GB WD. Would there be any REAL benefit in doing a zero-fill and then formatting over a plain vanilla format? I ask only because I know the zero-fill will take a whole lot longer. Thanks in advance. If this is the wrong forum mods, please move it.

Just do a normal format, there is NO advantage to the zero-fill format given your situation. A zero-fill format is more for when you are haveing problems wiht the drive.
