Any Pinnacle Studio users out there?

I am starting to us pinnacle and so far I love it! I didn't think video editing and movie making could be this fun....

I have a couple questions as to the compression... mpeg1 or mpeg 2... Kbits/sec and audio at 44.1 or 48kHz.

Here's another pet peive I have at the moment.. when I make the movie and do it at the default settings of width and height of 352 x 240 the movie is clear... but when I make it at 640 x 480 it's pixelated and is not clear.... How do people make movies that are bigger in size and CLEAR?

So far this is a blast for me... adding in music and mp3's, just alittle confused about the above types of video and audio settings.

Thanks,
-Nigel

I've been a Pinnacle Studio user for about 2 years now. And I just got a DVD burner, so now I'm making movies!

I have a few questions...

Where are you getting your video from? Are you capturing it from a camcorder? And what are your capture settings? What are your output options? Do you have a DVD burner?

I record video with a DV camcorder and capture it through FireWire into Pinnacle Studio. I capture with the DV Full Quality setting (figure 1). This captures at 720x480.... perfect DVD resolution. After I edit my movie, add music, create menus and such, I Make Disc with the settings below (figure 2). After waiting a while Pinnacle Studio is great and I like it a lot.

When you're making a DVD... Pinnacle Studio takes care of all the MPEG settings... so you can spend more time creating a great DVD!

However... if you're trying to make an MPEG or WMV file, there are more settings you can configure. If you want to make a DVD, use Make Disc.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes I have the Sony DCR-HC20 and it is a DV camcorder. When I stream it into Pinnacle I use a firewire cable and use the DV Full Quality Capture.

As far as output settings on the camcorder there is no set resolution...

This is weird because when I use pinnacle to set up the resolution higher it's not as clear as it is when it is on 352 x 240...

I do have a dvd burner... but I am mainly right now making the movies and uploading them to my ftp so I can put them on the net..

If you capture at Full Quality resolution, and Make a DVD, it should look just like it did on the DV tape.

But... Are you trying to make an MPEG file, is that where you can select 352 x 240 or different resolutions?

I've never made an MPEG file. I've only ever made WMV files. After I finish my movie, I'll make 2 different WMV files. One high resolution file to burn on a CD, and one smaller one for the website. Or other times I'll make a DVD with menus and stuff. It all depends on the project.

You're capturing at DV resolution, 720x480. Whatever size you export your movie as should just make it that size. Explain a little more about exactly what you do... from the camcorder to your final product.

I've used Pinnacle Studio for years, and believe in it. I hate when it doesn't work for someone!

What version of pinnacle studio are u guys using? I've looked around but it seems like there's no winner when it comes to video editing software (Vegas Video, Pinnacle Studio, Ulead MediaStudio, Adobe Premiere...)

What do you mean by saying "no winner?"

Pinnacle Studio and ULead VideoStudio are entry-level, consumer based video editing packages. They may have some quirks, but they can produce some awesome results.

Vegas and Premiere are more expensive, professional level editing apps... and they have many more features.

I'm using Pinnacle Studio 8, and have produced dozens of DVDs, with menus and such, with awesome quality.

It's a buyers market... there are plenty of video editing apps available. It just takes time to learn how to create good looking projects.

Video editing is an application that relies heavily on hardware and software, and you need a decent machine to run well. I wouldn't blame all of the problems with video editing solely on the software... it's a big puzzle with many possible reasons for failure.

Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones... but I've never had a major problem with Pinnacle Studio. I know other people who also shared success with Pinnacle.

I need to step up to Premiere or Vegas, because I need more capability for bigger projects. But I would still use Pinnacle Studio for smaller projects. :)
