my roomate recently recieved a powercolor 9800se model R98-SC3. he is giving it to me for $20. i was unable to unlock the extra 4 pipes, so i am wondering what the performance gains might be over my old ti 4200. it is nice to have the DX9 features and the possibility of oc'ing the card is there.
 
Ya it is an SE model but still better than a TI4200 im sure is it 64bit, 128bit or what.
 
I would say about a 30% boost...plus, as you said, you get the dx9 support...nice upgrade for $20 ;)
 
It's a 256-bit version, OC it and you'll have a card better than a 9600xt.

I did alot of research on it before I bought mine so I should know :p.

i kind of misenturpreted your post cause there were no PERIODS. the 9800se is 256 bit and 128mb mem. from what i've read this model uses 2.8 as opposed to the 3.3 usually found on the 9800se's i've got it up to 385/680 no artifacts on stock cooling. i was looking at getting some better cooling to oc it, specifically the arctic cooling VGA silencers, but havent seen one for the 9800se, just for the 9800xt. any suggestions for cooling?
 
What cooling you can get depends on the pcb your 9800se is on, can you get a picture of it up? Or perhaps if you know whether it's a 9700 pcb or 9800 pcb?

I misinterpreted your post because you never used proper capitalization...

Oh sorry I thought it was 64bit and 128bit. But ya 256bit thats sweet. It will outperform my 9600np 128bit.
 
I believe that's on 9700 pcb, so look for any cooler for 9700's, any of the 9700's, and those will most likely fit on it.
