Any options to extending wireless range without an extender?

Guys,

I have one Dlink wireless router. Works fine as long as I am pretty close to it. What can I do to get more range from it without buying a 75 dollar range extender?

Can I get a secondary router that would do that?

Any ideas?

thanks

My router can act as an access pt to extend the range of another wireless router,
But wouldn't a 2nd router be more expensive then a dedicated extender

Well, already have an extra wireless router.

What would I do to set it up that way as an access point?

What make/model is this second router you have? Some support being flipped to access point mode in their firmware.

Yeah post the make/model AND location in your Apt/house/dorm/etc. In many cases simply moving the equipment can make a DRASTIC change in performance
