Any noticable diffrence between AGP 4x and 8x?

Before I upgraded my pc I had my graphics card running on AGP4x, and my friend was running the same card with the same processor speed, and basicly the same system only with a diffrent mo-bo with AGP8x. Im just wondering if anyone has noticed any noticible diffrence between the two.

Most of today's games barely saturate the 4x bus let alone 8x. Luckily we're just in time for PCI-E.

Chances are they'll work just fine in 4x. Games today can run in 2x with only minimal performance loss. AGP 8x will probably not be fully utilized for some time - well after it's phased out.

just wait for doom3 and HL2......i dont think theyll even WORK in 4x.......
Where the heck did you come up with this? Don't bother posting if you don't know what you are talking about.

Most people seem to think that Doom 3 and HL2 are games that are going to require PCI-E, 2GB of memory, 10K RPM SCSI HDDs in RAID 0, 512MB versions of the next gen video card, 1GW PSUs, and 4.5GHz+ CPUs to run at 30FPS.

Reality: It won't be anything like that.

Id/Vavle know that most people DO NOT have awesome computers and will make the games playable on "decent" hardware. If these games could only be run on uber computers they would not make a lot of money.
When these games come out expect good computers to be able to run it at a decent resolution with a fair amount of detail turned on. High end computers will probably be able to run high(er) resolution and high(er) detail.

oh.....i did not know that about agp 4x and 2x, i was told that 8x was always faster, guess id better start reviewing what my friends say for accuracy. thank you for correcting me, i do NOT however like to be insulted for being wrong, so please do not do it again. Everyone makes mistakes. And to what you said about doom3 and half-life 2, you might want to rethink that, i for one do not think doom3 will run on mid end systems decently (well decently, but nothing too good) due to all the shadows unless ID does in fact include the setting to turn shadows off, in which case would make the game less realistic and freaky anyway. But we won't know until the game comes out anyway so there is no sense in arguing.

I second. Too many people around here are buying into this crap about games like d3 and h2 wont run on their actual systems. Perfectly good athlon xps and northwood cores are going down the drain cause of this. And dont get me started on all the 9800pro/xt...

Its common sense to see how unlikely it will be for these new games not run on your average "enthusiast" joe box...

what i want to know is where do people get the money to upgrade like that???? i mean, its rediculous, fx-53s and 6800u with the MOBO is like around 1000$ and thats not counting the latest ram and the like... I WANT MONEY LIKE THAT! i have bills out the ass and GF....i try to save where i can but theres not way i can come up with THAT kind of money very quickly....

ok well hard drives don't affect video performance :p. just loading times.

wow. 1 GW psu? 100,000,000 watts lol

anyways, i agree with your extremely exaggerated point :D

get a real job and, preferably, a GF who has one too.

However true it may be, insulting him, his job, or his gf probably wasn't the kind of response he was looking for.

Not everyone on this forum can afford to be bleeding edge, even though we all love bragging about our "hardware" ;)

And if you look for articles discussing AGP vs PCIE performance, you will find that there is very little if any difference between 4x and 8x, at least in today's games.

i agree, people told me that farcry would struggle on my pc (system in sig) and it runs awesome with all the settings maxed out and with antialiasing and anisotropic turned up.
