I have not been following this very closely but I was just wondering if there has been any new developments on thin-zero bezel technologies? anything on the horizon?
 
Unfortunately all the offerings I have seen in this area are super expensive. I think it will take another generation before we see more of these competing for our money.
 
They are coming down in price fast. Samsung recently released a product specifically developed for AMD's Eyefinity.

The bezel's are less than a quarter of an inch on the sides if I recall correctly.
Hopefully before the end of next year we should see a 24inch based version of this at the same price.

Damn that's sexy. A little too pricey for my tastes. If it were ~$1200 I'd actually consider buying that.
 
It's pricey, but since it's using IPS panels I really can't call it overpriced. A variant using cheaper VA or TN panels would probably sell a lot better.
 
This is almost convincing me that the need to wait for "true" eyefinity setups is evident.

Right now I'm having a hard time choosing between a 30" or 3x eyefinity setup (currently have one 2407WFP so I was going to get 2 more)

But seeing this, and the "potential bezeless setups" is pretty much convincing me that if I wait a year or two for this technology there will be some fucking sweet setups and I'll end up regretting an early adopter setup.

Time to go look for a used 30" monitor.
 
I think Eyefinity is going to become more mainstream as soon as display companies start pushing out some really nice wide screen rigs.
 
Im happy with my 3 U2311H, I game with them in Portrait mode. You know guys after maybe 2 weeks playing on them, you tend not to see the bezels no more.
 
for me anytway, you really dont notice the bezels when playing a game,etc, cause you focus on the middle screen and the other 2 are just there, i have 3 23" lcds with normal size bezels and got no complaints. i thought before buying, damn those bezels are gonna get annoying,but it hasnt been the case so far

pva panel / not ips

a single md230 cost $569 at newegg - that's a bit stratospheric for a 23" monitor - even the 120hz full 3d monitors arent over $500

so i did a little digging [very little] - and i found the syncmaster f2380

an older samsung monitor... but, its stats are almost exacting to the md230 - gtg speed, panel type, size, resolution, contrast, brightness, etc...

the only difference i can see are no displayport and of course, no uber thin bezels...

wanna know how much one can find a f2380 for?

less than $200 - usually right around the $175 mark if you're looking real hard

so the question is - why does thin bezels and a displayport connection ramp the price up from sub $200 to nearly $600?

dont forget the stand - a good 3 monitor stand is around $150 or so - taking neweggs price into consideration at $569 a piece, that's $1707 for 3 monitors, slap on a $150 stand and you're looking at $1857

so there's no premium or discount for buying all 3 in package form - it's 3 monitors and a stand for exactly what 3 monitors and a stand would go for - that is, if those monitors are ridiculously overpriced that is :)

By packaging I meant the way the monitors are built and presented in the all-in-one stand- not the cardboard box they come in.

Also if you look at the unboxing video posted above you can see that all Samsung has done is remove the plastic cosmetic shell on the monitor and paint the metal frame underneath black. They didn't design some fancy new enclosure...they just removed the bs from it.

oh no friend i didnt mean to imply you were wrong... only pointing out that no matter if you buy separate or together, it's still way too much hard earned money

to your second point...

wow really? that's lame... so you're telling me someone can buy the old syncmasters for sub $200 and with a little cosmetic surgery have yourself something just like the md230?

how does that work... nevermind, ford used to put shiny chrome colored plastic on a car and call it a mercury and charge $10k more for it...

edit - wow i just watched the unboxing...

that is a f2380 with the plastic removed! i am totally buying one and taking it apart to see what i find :)

Make it 3 20" cheap panels and price it at $400. See what happens. I would buy one.
 
Nice, but a bit overpriced. Three Dell 2311's + an Ergo Tech triple stand will cost roughly $1300.00. You gain IPS panels at the cost of the thinner bezel.
 
well with a reso of 2880x900 who would want it? plus i dont think they could ever get the price down below $2000 :)

Gotcha. And I'd love to see what you find. I don't know enough about Samsung's models to say whether or not it's basically another model in disguise (or more appropriately one that has been stripped naked)...but I've seen enough disassembled LCDs to know that those are most certainly a set of LCDs without the plastic coverings on them.

i ordered a f2380 today from pcconnection - as soon as i get it its going under the screwdriver, dremel, hammer, whatever to get it as naked as possible

ill post a new thread with pics and information...
