Any more reference 6950 2GB left?

I bought a new 6950 2GB that looked like a reference 6950 ( http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7092103 ) but what I got was the exact same box but the card is a non-reference card with a totally different cooler and without the "AMD" branding near the PCI-e connector. I'm currently getting a refund, but I'm trying to find a reference card to match my unlocked 6950 for crossfire.

Has anyone ordered a reference 6950 in the recent past and actually gotten a reference card?

It looks like there's a VisionTek one on provantage here: http://www.provantage.com/visiontek-900352~7VSTV093.htm
But I read some amazon reviews that say they're using non-reference cards now.

Definitely return the card you got from TG.

I got two HIS 6950 2gbs last month and they were scarce and being blown out with rebates then. Not sure what you'd get from provantage, but that does look like the original.

Remember, you need to get a card with the original PCB, heatsink/fan AND dual BIOS switch for it to unlock. The newer cards with the dual fan coolers and dual BIOS switch DO NOT unlock. I've seen a lot of people here speculating that the dual fan versions with BIOS switch unlock, but I've tried both the powercolor and sapphire cards and they are locked (shades are likely laser-cut).

I have tried with a powercolor 6950, couldn't unlock the shaders, but I can run it no problems at 950/1350mhz with a lil bit of voltage and at that speed it's faster than a 6970, so I am satisfied. Got the card for a good price too.

Yes! Just got one. I think they have quite a few in stock, but its limited to 5 per order so I can't check. Hopefully this one is actually the reference card and they don't pull a bait-and-switch.

I finally got a refund for the card from TD after a few rage emails.

edit: I tried unlocking the dual fan card but it hard locks the computer when windows starts loading the vid card drivers

Just ordered the reference MSI one off that link fly gave. They are the only ones left. Can't wait to run some Crossfire for the first time.

Just a heads up: stay away from the VisionTek reference ones. I sent an email to their tech support and from what it sounds like, they're starting to put non-reference ones in the box.

VisionTek said:
The reference design are typically only available during the first launch of the new series cards. We will more than likely carry the new revision of the 6950 cards in our inventory.
Thank you,

This guy unlocked a MSI Twin Frozr II.

Yup, I did. Working great right now. Although since it doesnt have a bios switch I would suggest having a second card just in case things go wrong, so you can flash it back. I used cmd line and atiwinflash to get this bios

Also had the benefits of raising all the ccc and AB overclocking limits.

I would pick up a twin frozr ii, worse that can happen is you have a highly overclockable card that wont unlock (although I now see i am not the only one) but has an awesome cooling solution

will any random card work for recovery, or do I need a matching one?

Any card will work. You just need one that works so you can see the display and make sure you're inputting the right commands.

Hey guys, just an update: I got my MSI 6950 in the mail yesterday and it unlocked to full shaders to problem. It overclocks to 925 at 1.175v, but I haven't gotten a chance to play around with it more. I have a little while to return the non-ref 6950 from TD so it's doing some bitcoin mining in the meantime, I figure it's their way to pay me back for my time and shipping expenses ;)

The frozer 2 is only $10 more, I'm tempted to snag it instead for quieter cooling.

6970s are getting lower you can one for about 329 now with rebates. It might be worth the extra 50 or so bones for a card that will outperform an unlocked 6950.

Does anyone have a comparison of a unlocked 6950 and 6970 at the same speed? I have a feeling that the 6970's extra ROPs and TMUs don't add too much of a benefit.

That's a great question because im on the verge of just buying a 6970 instead of waiting around for another 6950. I Should of bought 2 to start with.
