Are there any notebooks with VA/IPS screen? I'm interested to know...

I dont know what it is, but I know the Lenovo W700ds has a very good screen (even has a built in color calibrator).

My Thinkpad T60 has an S-IPS screen. Pretty sure some T43s have IPS panels too ...

Yes some of the older laptops used them back in the good old days. Too expensive to make anymore since everyone wants to pay less for notebook computers. I have tried some over the years.

Here are some of them:

Fujitsu made some with the MVA type panel. They were the older "N" series usually with the 15" screen....not 15.4. Fujitsu makes very good solid notebook computers and I dont know why they haven caught on in the U.S. Many of them still made in Japan.

Some of the models were N3010 and N5010. I still have the N3010 and the picture is beautiful. The newer ones dont compare. Also I suspect the N6010 which is a 17" screen but I havent been able to get a hold of one.

Also like one of the other people mentioned is some of the older IBM notebooks used IPS called Flexview. I had the T43P for awhile and great PQ. T42, T42P
T43, T43P, T60, T60P and I think the R50 and R50P all had IPS. Research for the specific model to get the correct panel. It was only certain size and resolution which had the IPS type screen. None of the 15.4" versions have the IPS. It would have to be 15"
Good site to research: http://forum.thinkpads.com/

Another IPS type was the Asus V6Va.

So no notebooks on the market currently have IPS or VA screens? I'm not interested in older notebooks. A notebook with an IPS/VA panel plus core i5 would be sweet for me...

No there are no new ones available.............believe me I have checked:(
They do have the RGB LED type panels which I have on my Dell Studio 17 which actually have a very nice picture but I still think my Fujitsu with the MVA panel still looks better.

The new Thinkpad W510 probabaly comes with a VA panel for FHD screen options.

15.6 inch 95% sRGB gamut ...1920 x 1080.. Also Core i7 processor options.

Look for the details in the following PDF file.

Also, the x200t uses IPS technology. (mainly for vewing angle) However, its a 6bit panel and color reproduction isn't so good.

I'm pretty sure Apple uses IPS panels on the 15.4" and 17" MBPs. You don't actually have to run OS X on a Mac, you know. :)

No. Apple runs the same - if not worse, dressed up with the lipstick-on-a-pig glossy layer - dreck used by many mid-tier manufacturers. And yeah, if you want to run an almost-there facsimile of Windows - sure, shoot yourself in the foot and use Boot Camp. Mactards like to magic up everything on their machines, like kids at a playground

HP has some WVA screens in the Elitebook range. I don't know if this is some euphemism, or a VA variant. If they don't have VA screens I don't know anyone else who does nowadays.

The Apple MBP notebooks do not have the IPS type panel. I tried out the 15" and 17" notebooks and found not only the PQ terrrible but also the viewing angles which is a telltale sign that they are TN panels.

I would be interested in finding out if the Thinkpad has the VA type panel. The manufacturers are usually very vague about that. I will check with the people over on the Thinkpad forum for more information.

thinkpads use very poor quality cheap TN's
macbook pro's use specially treated high quality TN's
older generation macbook pros used PVA or MVA? panels (i had a 15" with one, anyway)

also, you can get an X200 with a CCFL TN, and swap the panel with an AFFS panel.

Well there is one... But you don't want it. The HP EliteBook 8740w can be configured to have one of their Dreamcolor displays, 10-bit IPS 1920x1200. Problem is that the upgrade to it is $570, and the unit itself is like $2500 without it.

Now the lower end screens on the 8740w might, and I emphasize MIGHT be IPS but I don't know.
