Looking to finally upgrade my GTX 680 to the next flagship Nvidia card. Any word on when the 1080 Ti will drop? Hopefully before the fall and hopefully not at a ridiculous price. Any word yet? I've searched and searched but have only been able to come up on 1070/1080 news.

$799, January 17th 2017. 12GB Ram
Titan comes out October 25th for $1049, 16GB ram on that one.

It will MOST LIKELY drop late this year OR next march as the $1000 Titan V. Then probably by June or July it will release as the $750 1080 Ti.

Thanks,

Seems wise to think that they would release on a similar pace as last generation.

GeForce GTX 980 September 18, 2014
GeForce GTX Titan X March 17, 2015
GeForce GTX 980 Ti June 1, 2015

Aslo:

The 1080 Ti will either be a heavily gimped, moderately gimped or totally par chip with the Titan V depending on how fierce competition is from AMD. No real competition: 1080Ti will most likely be 25-15% slower than Titan V. Moderate Competition, 1080Ti will be 10-5% slower (a 980Ti/Titan X situation), or if AMD puts up a decent fight, the full P100 chip will be released in consumer form (780Ti/Titan Black situation).

Pray for good competition.

I'm already excited for the based 1080 -- and since my main gaming rig has been running without a video card (Sold my xfire 290 setup almost 2 months ago) I'm diving head first into the regular 1080 card as an MSI variant whenever one comes in stock somewhere. Happy to pay the 600-650 price. I only game at 2K and it looks as if the 1080 will be able to handle anything you throw at it flawlessly at that resolution.

Love them or hate them -- nvidia has their business machine setup and oiled well, their ability to set the bar and then see what happens and react almost instantly is impressive.

There might be no ti version as it was with 600s. I think that could be realistic till volta comes and hbm2 becomes standard memory for x80 or even x70 cards.

Vega will release very expensive but outperforming the 1080, then NV will release the 1080ti at the same price as GP100 or GP102 beating it in performance by at least 10%, then AMD will drop Vega's price to be competitive.

And I say unto ye-- Thus it was claimed, thus it was written, thus will it stand.

If this is true, I hope they make a 1090 then. I still have a 690 4 years later and would love to upgrade like that again.

My bet: they're gonna do 1 of 2 things. Either not have a Ti this gen like the 680's or release the Ti at $749 or more. I've read on EVGA's forums that the 1080's only support two way SLI, so it's a hunch that three way or more SLI will become a "luxury" feature supported by Ti or Titan's.

It all depends on:

1) Vega performance
2) Vega pricing

And we don't know anything whatsoever about either one yet.

It seems like Nvidia keeps inching up their prices higher and higher with every generation. The x80 line is now their 'midrange' cards and they want $700 for them!

I would not be surprised in the least to see Nvidia repeat their 'founder's edition' bullshit with the 1080 Ti and launch them at $849, later dropping them down to $749 after they've milked the impatient idiots who can't wait a month or two. I could see them keeping the 1080's at their $599 price or maybe dropping them by $50 when the 1080 Ti launches, and that's it. Effectively giving them a $379 card on the low end (1070), a $599 card in midrange (1080), a $749 card on the high-end, and of course the usual Titan highway robbery card for people with more money than sense at $1000+

Nvidia doesn't even have to compete with AMD anymore and they know it, with a 82% market share Nvidia can price their cards hundreds of dollars higher than AMD's equivalents and with lower performance and they know they will still sell like hotcakes.

Maybe what constitutes a mid-range model is changing?

Ya know, I thought the same thing, so I looked it up:

GTX 570 = $349
GTX 670 = $399
GTX 770 = $399
GTX 970 = $329

GTX 580 = $499
GTX 680 = $499
GTX 780 = $649
GTX 980 = $549

Pricing the 1070 at $379 and the 1080 at $599 isn't too out of character for NV. It just seems so much worse because the 900 series was significantly cheaper at launch than the 700 series. Typically, the x70/x80 prices would drop when the x80ti would release, but with the 900 series, the prices remained static.

The x80 line is now their 'midrange' cards and they want $700 for them!

The Titan is their halo card and isn't always faster than the x80ti. Their main lineup was:
-950
-960
-970
-980
-980ti

So I wouldn't consider the x80 to be mid-range. And as of May 27th, it will be their fastest card.

The 780 was $649 at launch.

The 1080 being priced at $599 and $699 actually makes me wonder if there is going to be a Ti series this go around... Although Jayztwocents did drop a hint in one of his TechTalk Q&A saying the "Nvidia folk" were saying if they were excited by the 1080, they hadn't seen nothing yet.

I really wouldn't be surprised if we saw the 1080 priced at $600 - $850 depending on the model... A Titan V featuring HBM2 for $1200, no Ti model... And then the 1180 series being based on the Titan V. I think it just depends on what AMD brings to the table.

We will EVENTUALLY see a consumer GP100 release. Wether that will be the 1180 or the Titan V or the 1080Ti, who knows.

Agreed. I guess I'm just noting how the naming scheme has such a huge effect on the pricing and release timeline.

That's my expectation as well. I don't know why so many think there will be ti. 500s or 600s had no x80ti model and 780ti appeared only because 290x was faster than 780.
