Am converting a Dell PowerEdge 1800 server into a desktop of sorts... running XP SP2... no problems with general functions...

Had put in a Audigy 2 ZS just because I had it... and installed just the drivers (ie none of the other fluff from the CD) and then updated the drivers via the web. XP seems to think everything is ok and that "the device is working properly". I believed it...

But I hadn't actually tested it... I finally got around to actually plugging in some speakers last night... and had no sound. Everything checks out, been thru it a couple of times but still no sound.

For what its worth, I happened to plug the card into the 32 bit/33mhz slot... just because it was open. Haven't found any info in my searches to figure out if that matters or not but don't think it should. About the only thing I haven't tried is to see if moving the card to the 64 bit/66mhz slot or one of the 64bit/100mhz pci-x slots makes a difference. Should it?

Any other ideas?

Not that anyone cares... but I have it working now...

Basically my machine has 1 32bit/33mhz slot and 1 64bit/64mhz slot as well as two 64bit/100mhx pci-x slots...

I had put the Audigy card into the 32bit slot without any thought really. And it didn't work. So I finally experimented by swapping it to the 64bit slot and it worked no problems... and a further experiment showed it worked fine in the pci-x slots as well...

Nothing that I could find at Creative or elsewhere clued me in to the fact that this card won't work in the basic slot... which was frustrating... but at least its working now.
 
That reminds me... I have to get a motherboard with PCI Express for my RAID controller still.
