I have a 200gb seagate drive and I was moving some date from a smaller 40gb to the 200. Everything went fine and smooth and I could access the info. When I came back to the computer later that day I went into the drive and tried to play some music and bam, computer locked up. When I restart the drive is no longer available and it isnt formatted of course...

Got file scavenger and all that shows up is that info that I transferred from that 40gb hd. The other 120gb of info that I had on the 200 doesnt even show up. So what the hell happened and please dont tell me that I am totally screwed cause file scavenger wont pull it up...

Any advice, all I am really worried about is about 60gb of it the other stuff can go but none of the original info doesnt show up...

its the other primary tool in my bag after FileScavenger
take it slow and ask for help on the DIY forum with what you find

if it was all there when you first tried to access it
then it corrupted and the partition dissappeared you have broken the chain of pointers
for the partition table to the master file table to the data

you did a direct scan with File Scavenger?
I just dont see 120GB of space getting locked out
and a 40 GB transfer couldnt possibly overwrite it all

ok thanks for the help, i am going to try to learn how to use diskpatch...
