Any good ball mice?

hey,

I am planning on buying new mouse. I use an optical mouse right now but i like the feel of the good ole' ball mice. However I don't ever see and high-end (~$30 with good button sets) mice.

I WAS planning on getting the logitech MX510 ( i can get one new for $25 until jan 31st due to rebate) but i just wanted to see if there were any good ball mice before i buy.

btw, I don't like wireless, too heavy. Cord is better.

i actually prefer optical. see... i'm an artist who likes to stick to good ol' pencil and paper... so that's a lot of eraser shavings. i live in a dorm room, and i'm a diehard slob, so guess where the shavings invariably wind up with a ball mouse?

yup. the rollers. meaning i have to give the thing an alcohol bath to make it reliable

the mouse that i personally have liked the most so far is a Fellowes Web Pro Mouse(linky) it's small, which means it doesn't clog up my desk like a sedentary rhino, and it has these little buttons on the sides which work as forward/back buttons for your browser, regardless of which browser you use. it's very useful, and its silver and translucent blue buttons (except for the web buttons, which are black) make it look really cool. it is an optical mouse, though, which for you is a minus, but i'll still recommend it because it's the one i've liked the most... and i've been computing since 1992 so i've worn out a fair share of mice

Thats a pretty ugly statement, considering the one i used to click on this post i got two and a half years ago, after my baby sister decided to put my old one in water.(which i have had for 2 1/2 years previous to that one)

everyone i have ever used starts going bad on me after about a year, some little thing always gets stuck, hair gets in it, dust gets in it, the ball and the little plastic bars start getting all ugly, and then it just stops working, the pointer will just sit there until you shake it violently.... god i hate ball mice

for me, optical was a god send

I'm using a stock HP mouse and it's fine, before this year i had never cleaned it, but still hadn't noticed problems... It scrolls perfectly, and i have a dog but hair doesn't get in either.

so optical is the way to go then?

I set windows on max sensitivity and I feel it is not sensitive enough (right now I am borrowing my brothers Microsoft Wheel mouse optical because he has a laptop and can live without it), so I was looking at the logitech mx 510 because I hear it is very sensitive... I am right handed and for $25 shipped it seems like a good deal?

But i hear the new (grrrrr) logitech mx 518 is coming out!!!!!!!!

btw i have never used a mouse with a wheel before last week...LOL just used the 2 button ball mice that came with comp. the wheel on this MS mouse is pretty nice...

What to buy!!!!!!!! any suggestions? (no $100000 mice please )
