I have a bunch of video files that I'd like to convert to wmv format and others to mov. Is there a good app out there for OS X that is either free or I can buy?

To be nice, I'll say I use Visualhub, it'll convert just about any format to any format and it only costs like $20.

Now the not so nice answer is see here. (Still trying to be nice :D) You will find a bunch of options for conversion programs in there.

Videora only works on Windows (and that program isn't exactly fun to use either).

I would second VisualHub or iSquint.

FFmpegX is my vote. I can't tell you how many videos I've converted using that. It supports the most common codecs too.

I just bought a macbook pro and found myself very unfamiliar with the software available. I wanted to share movies from my mac to my xbox 360. 360connect and VisualHub came through for me, works very well and very easy to use - even for a mac newb.

QuickTime Pro has some fairly decent encoding options, and lets you do light editing as well.

that's the beauty of Visualhub, it will use Quicktime encoding or FFMepgX encoding, as well as a few others. It will use what ever will be best for the format it's coming form and going to. You can also specify to use a certain one if you want to force it.
