Trying to find some benchmarks comparing CPU's while gaming at 1920x1080. I've got a Q6600 at stock speeds b/c my damn ASUS P5N-E won't let me bump the fsb to overclock it AT ALL!

Was hoping to find some comparisons of a Q6600 @ 2.4ghz compared to one over 3ghz as well as to the newer i5 and i7

What's the rest of your rig? Games are very often GPU-bound, so unless you have a very fast graphics card your processor may only be slightly (if at all) bottlenecking the rest of your system.

Gtx 275 oc. Just wondering if there is some benchmarks with cpus at 1080p. Next card will be a gtx 5 series.

I just bought a floppy drive so hopefully i can flash the bios and get my asus p5n-e to oc my quad.

I just look for the 1920x1200 benchmarks and figure I'd be at least in the same ballpark if not a few fps faster.

I can give you a personal feedback review this weekend when my parts come in tomorrow, send me a PM if you want to chat about our shared situation. I'm a heavy gamer with (normally) a 3.2ghz Q6600 (sig rig) but lately has been stock clocks because of a stability problem unrelated (probably) to the cpu. I am upgrading to a 2500k and plan to OC to 4.4 using a Noctua NH-D14, so since I game @ 1080p and I've run a 3.2ghz Q6600 for 3 years I can definitely give you some good feedback.

Theyre gonna be kinda hard to find cause most review sites review processors at medium resolutions like 1680x1050 and with low settings because that works the CPU more. 1920x1080 and higher with high settings brings the GPU more into play and makes the CPU less involved.

I know they do, but most gamers that are buying the mid-high end parts are running 1080p. I bet its not long before this starts to be the norm in benchmarks. I wanna see real world performance at 1080p with mid range and high end cards with a variety of cpu's! come on [H] be the first and start tge trend!

If you want to run high-max settings you need a 2500k or better @ 1080P. Q6600 won't get the job done with quality settings even with the backing of GPU horsepower. I'm just saying all this with prior knowledge but buying any video card like a GTX 560 TI or better is a waste on that CPU.

If you don't care about image quality your Q6600 will work just fine, just like any Phenom II or C2Q would these days. But the newest processors are a huge jump in performance and really scale well with the cards. Look at your GPU usage. With a 2600k both of my GTX 570's are at 97%-99% usage in most games. (Dirt 3, BF:BC2, ect)

Thats just wrong.

A C2Q or a Phenom X4 or better are perfectly fine for gaming. The higher you get in resolution and settings, the less the CPU becomes a factor.

Overclockers club was the only place that did cpu benchmarks at high resolutions and settings and they recently quit because I assume they got tired of the same results.

Here is a review of the Phenom 955. At 1920x1200 and max settings, the results are virtually the same. Yes the i7-920 is faster but only marginally so enough to be virtually a dead heat.

So while a cpu is important, you dont need a $1000 processor to get the best graphics. Pair a powerful video card with a i5, Phenom X4 or Core2Quad and youll have plenty of muscle and wont be missing out on anything.

I'm not talking about the i7 920 because the 2500k costs less and is even better for gaming. You are talking to someone who has gone though: Q6600, 720BE, i7 920, i7 860 and now a 2600k. These new Sandy Bridge are really awesome for gaming especially.

Nobody in their right mind would run something GTX 580 SLI setup on a Phenom II platform because of the bottleneck. Point is if you want to play at the best settings, you need the best. If you want to play at moderate settings of course your q6600 will suffice. Just don't expect any kind of miracles.

Thats just ridiculous! You absolutely do not need the best processor to play at the best settings. A dual core will max out 99% of the games out there right now! Id run a SLI setup off my Phenom X6 in a heartbeat and not lose a seconds sleep over it. Sure you might get a few more frames than me with your Sandy Bridge but it aint gonna be a lot of them and certainly not enough that Ill have to lower my settings.

Yeah, you obviously have no clue what you are talking about if you really think a dual core gets the job done and if you think you can run SLI on an AMD chipset other than the 990.

seems to be gaming just fine...

i didnt notice any hickups.

Didn't your teacher tell you to pay attention to detail?

Hi everybody,

Here is the second part of the Level "Second Chance" of Crysis 2.
I recorded it with Fraps at 1920x1080. My In-game frame rate
is about 15-20fps and without Fraps its at 30-40fps.

Feel free to leave comments or to ask questions!

ENJOY!

30-40 FPS is not an acceptable framerate and he doesn't even mention what IQ settings he has turned on. More importantly, we are talking about high end Multi-GPU setups which your e8400 or a AMD Processor do not have the horsepower to fully utilize these big boy video cards.

Depending on what GPU you have installed pay attention to your GPU usage and see how low it is compared to others. With my 2600k @ 4.5 + GTX 570 SLI in BF:BC2 my GPU 1 and GPU 2 usage juggles between 97%-99%.

Check out this article. They test at 1680x1050 and 2560x1600, but it should be pretty much what you are looking for:
