Any easy optical drive stealthing mods?

Depends on your case. Some allow you to mount the drives far enough back to do this, some don't. Do you have the original drive hole covers? Those will help alot.

Yeah i have the drive covers and i can also mount the drives farther back, but know how would i go about doing this easily?

Just do it the ghetto way...

1. Take off the little tabs that hold the bay covers in place where you want to stealth
2. Move the two drives back so that they will be flush with the back of the bay covers
3. Use some sort of filler to fill in the back area of the bay cover (I used hot glue and black popsicle sticks)
4. Apply adhesive velcro to both the front of the cd drawer and to the back of the bezel
5. Realign the drive so that the bezel sits perfectly flush with the others
6a. Create a buildup on the surface of the filler where the button is, so you can press it in to get the tray to eject
6b. Or open the drive, and solder one wire to the left side of the button and another to the right. Run the wires to a momentary pushbutton switch so that it will connect the two wires when pressed.
(B is the better of the two methods, A always turns out bad if you do not do it PERFECTLY)
6c. Or you can do neither 6a or 6b and just right-click the drive in My Computer and click eject (LAZY METHOD!)
7. Grab a beer and admire your work.

The drive will look great when closed, but still look a bit awkward when opened. It is something a bit of Vinyl Dye can easily fix (as previously stated) but will void your warrantee (6b would also void it). Taking out all the parts is easy, and using Vinyl Dye is easier. It just takes a bit of work, so whatever you pick to do, it is easy. :D

I did it like the method above, but I used double sided sticky foam, about 1/8" thick and 1/2" wide. It allows the faceplate to flex enough that the small buildup can activate the eject button. Also, I bought a drive that came with a white and a black faceplate. If I ever have to return it, I can just put the spare one on.

Man, I am all over 6c. I had no idea you could do this!!! You just solved a big problem for me. Thanks, dude!

Or black sprey paint, just dont try to cover it in one coat. Between three and four thin (and I do mean thin) coats seems to be about right.

Black vinyl dye works better on plastic, I've had regular spray paint chip off fairly easily.

Does this help?

[font=&quot]If it chipped off you used the wrong paint, the surface was not properly prepared, or you didn’t allow it to fully dry. Did you remember to rub down the face of the drive with rubbing alcohol to get rid of dirt, grease and oils from your hands?

I know vinyl dye holds better by design (it soaks in), but when I compare the drive I painted black to the one that came black from the factory, the one I painted black blends in to my Lian-Li far better and the paint has been holding up just fine...I think I'll be painting the factory black drive soon, actually.
