Any cheaper mass storage than HDD's?

Well I do work editing and producing videos with Adobe Premiere. An average project is 20-35 gigs in space and I like to keep all the raw footage, atleast for a while in case of problems. Getting a couple 250GB hdd's is rather expensive and I was wondering if there's any cheaper alternative I've never heard of to store huge ammounts of data. Or do I just gotta pay for big drives?

I'm talking literaly a metric tons worth...
 
HDs are probably the cheapest... since you cant fit what you want on DVD-R, even double layer media. If you watch the hot deals forum here (or some place like www.slickdeals.com), or look at the FS/FT forum here you might be able to pick up HDs at 20-30 cents per GB - in fact there is a maxtor 300GB drive on sale for $150 tomorow at OD, check the hot deals forum here. I'd think you'd be hard pressed to beat that (you can get DVD-/+R media for 50c per disc, but again, you dont seem like you are able to store any single project on one DVD media). Tapes (as in tape drives) are still about $1/GB (at least from what I see on newegg), plus the cost of the drive.
