I currently own a HP LP2475w, which is good and has a great display quality, but I can't help disliking it for how thick it is. I've considered exchanging it for a zr24w, but I'm not really sure...

isn't there any sleek ips 24'' in the whole world?
 
The ZR24w is thinner than the LP2475w but not by much I think. It looks a lot better though and the aluminum frame is a nice touch. The Dell U2410 is thinner than either of them but I would hardly call it "sleek" either.

Aside from Apple Cinemas, I don't think there are any particularly nice looking IPS screens sadly. There are new LG IPS LED models coming but they are only 23" and 1080p and have a glossy bezel. No thanks.
 
Ty for that, I didn't know the ZR24w was thinner, even if it's not much, that can make the difference for me. Do you know wether the aluminium frame on the zr24w is metal or plastic?

Not sure to be honest. I haven't even taken off the protective sheets around the edges of mine yet :)

I haven't compared them side to side but the LP2475w seemed more bulky to me when I saw it. Perhaps it's just the aluminum accent that makes it look so but the ZR24w seems a little bit thinner to me. It's still a fairly thick display though. I'll try to find out whether it's real aluminum or not when I get home.
 
i'm glad to know you just purchased a ZR24w. Congrats! It would be great if you could post some first hand impressions :) I just dont know what to do, my LP2475w is so bulky... I'd sell it and go for some sleek ultrathin LCD if it wasn't for how bad TN displays are in general. However, this monitor is my first one after a 17'' generic LCD I was given with my desktop pc seven years ago, so I really ignore how bad would it be using a TN TFT as main monitor. Are viewing angles that bad? I mean, is it true that you cannot even displace your head a bit lower than the front of the monitor since this will cause the color to invert?

I'm not even a graphic designer... I game and watch movies, I just want some viewing angles goodness and some good display quality... sigh.

I've only had the chance to play with it for a short time so I can't tell much but from what I've seen so far, I'm happy with it. Zero dead/stuck pixels, even backlight with no bleeding that I could see. I had already seen two of these at work so I knew what to expect.

I came from a Samsung 193P+, a sleek stylish PVA with the actual bezel made of aluminum. Although 5 years old, that screen is still slimmer than many LED LCDs now. So yeah, the ZR24w seems bulky in comparison. It's not a big deal to me when you consider all the pros and cons but I would have definitely paid more for a slimmer screen of the same image quality if such thing existed. It's true that once you sit in front of it, it doesn't matter how deep and bulky it is but why do we care what our car looks like when we don't see it from the inside while driving? ;)

Either way, as nice as the ZR24w is, I don't think I would exchange the LP2475w simply on the basis that the former is slimmer because the difference is quite small although the ZR24w is a nicer looking screen in my opinion. Then again, not being a graphic designer you probably don't need wide gamut in which case the ZR24w being a sRGB native monitor could be worth the exchange.

For something truly slim, you'd very likely have to sacrifice image quality, resolution and size. The main problem with the viewing angles of TN panels is that you can never have a uniform image no matter what your viewing position is because you are always viewing the edges at an angle. Most of the time that means colors are darker at the top and washed out at the bottom of the display. It is precisely the reason why I will never buy a TN screen again and I always sit right in front of my monitor. See if you can check out a TN in a store, they are all similar in terms of color shift so you could try to see if you could live with that but I wouldn't do it if I were you. Sacrificing so much for a screen that looks pretty when turned off just isn't worth it, especially if you are happy with your HP in terms of PQ and color uniformity.

ps: oh my holy sh*t. I've found a dead pixel. First time I see it since I bought the monitor one month ago. Shhhhh*t. Do u know how much does this depreciate the monitor? It's only one, but it's there though. Sh*t.
 
Is it a dead pixel (black dot on a white background) or a stuck one (red, green, or blue dot on a black background)? IIRC, HP doesn't allow any full dead pixels on their monitors and also I believe there is a "zero bright dot warranty" for the LP2475w which means stuck pixels are covered as well.

Love that little print...i got a panel with a stuck pixel...except it was stuck off...not a warranty concern according to HP. gogo 21 day return policy.
 
I personally think the lp2475w looks more appealing than its successor, the zr24w. It seems bulkier and more professional, imo.
 
its quite dark, I wouldn't say its completely black but lightysh grey. It's quite unnoticeable though, I really gotta search for it if I try to locate it. It doesn't matter though, I'm going to try to sell it. I'll say it has one wierd pixel, show some photos and give it at 40% off, at the exact price of the ZR24w here in Spain.
 
btw, does anybody know wether the DELL 2410 looks thinner than the LP2475 and/or ZR24W?

Still, IMO not enough to be worth the hassle of selling your monitor and replacing it unless you are unhappy with it.
