Has anyone heard of any new (enterprise or laptop) 2.5" hard drive technology coming up? We've seen 3.5" drives go up to 12TB, but 2.5" NAS drives seem to have stuck at 1TB for anyone except Seagate and 2TB for Seagate (which I wouldn't touch with a 10 ft pole.) I have been anxiously awaiting a WD Red or a HGST NAS 2.5" drive in 2TB or 3TB capacities. I would think that wouldn't be too much trouble, considering the 10-12TB 3.5" drives, if they bother.

2.5" drives have been at 5TB for a while. There's no demand for 2.5" hard drives for NAS purposes.

Laptop 2.5 drives are on the way out, we might see a higher than 2tb sometime in the future (there are 3/4/5 tb hdds just they are 13mm instead of the 7mm), when technology allows higher density platters, but its not a priority, specially considering that there are even 4tb 2.5 ssds, i know... they are expensive, but investing more on 2.5 hdds is not a good investment as ssds are much closer than with 3.5hdds.
