I am currently using a GeForce 8800GTX. One of its best features is the use of anti-aliasing modes that have only a negligible performance impact. For example, I can easily run 16xCSAA anti-aliasing in Team Fortress 2 and other games. In most games, I can run 8x anti-aliasing. Revisiting old games like Half-Life 2, the image quality is pretty astounding.
My question is, assuming I want to maintain high levels of anti-aliasing but switch to AMD, does AMD offer the same sort of anti-aliasing performance. I briefly owned a 2900XT and returned it after discovering that its higher anti-aliasing settings actually blurred the image (tent filters, ect?) Are they still using that system?
In other words, is the anti-aliasing better on Nvidia? What if any compromise am I making if I switch to say, a 4870 or 4870X2.
