Hi! i am quite a newb to the forum and I have a question to ask
if an Antec TruePower 2.0 550W better than the new X-connect X-finity?
Thank alot

That is kind of an Apples and Oranges question. What will it be for? What do you want it to do?

well it should be a gaming rig with only 1 x 7800GT I dont think I will OC anything maybe a dual core

their is no "VS" X-connect = crap

Antec - tried / tested and true - but look into other ones like Fortron and other even better companies

New Ultra's are Wintech units......unless WIntech has lowered their standards they are not exactly Young Year quality ;)

why do you think x connect is so crappy? I know everyone around here disses them, though my guess is mostly due to bandwagon effect. I have an X-connect(not the new model) and it runs flawlessly. Its specs show 32A on the +12, not bad IMO.

Its not thinking, its knowing. Would you choose a Corolla over a Ferrari?

There is no X-Connect X-Finity. It's either X-Connect or X-Finity.

If either model you're looking at is one of the newer ones with the FlexForce cables, then it beats the Antec because they have more power on each 12V, greater combined 12V, better efficiency, quieter fan (kind of goes hand and hand w/ the efficiency), longer warranty (3 years out of box, lifetime w/ registration) and costs less than the Antec. That and the FlexForce cables make the insides of your PC look really slick. ;-) (ahem.. if you're into that kind of thing.)

but there are 2 model with the X-finity 500w with PFC active <====i wonder what's that?
and there is the 600w
which one is better and good money/perf?

There's the old X-Finity which had single 12V rails and regular cables, and there's the new X-Finity which has the dual 12V rails and the FlexForce cables. I'm not aware of an Active PFC model.

500 or 600W? I kept the 500W and gave the 600W I reviewed to a friend. It was more powerful, but it's more power than I, or most people, even need.

The 600W has a pair of 80MM fans, which is a lot louder than the single 120MM on the 500W. I asked the Ultra guy why that was and he said that it needed the push pull cooling to sustain > 500W. I told him that I doubted anyone would try to sustain > 500W with the power supply and that people that bought it would just want the additional overhead. He said that if the user doesn't need > 500W, they need to buy the 500W. I told him that that's the way it might work in Taiwan... but not here in the bigger, better, faster, more United States of America. :D

The very first revisions of the X-connects were good PSU's - it was the 2nd revisions that were going up in smoke and taking the entire system with them.

i really havent heard much of any of the new ones but i just know there are better makers out there which i would much rather trust with my $100+ and my $2k computer parts.

more to do with history
like the part where they lied through their teeth and claimed they where the greatest thing since sliced bread and parted alot of fools from their money

only to have the tables turned and the pricepoint drop through the basement do to an erroneous attribution to POWmax, however even after that was denied they wouldnt reveal the manufacturer until it was definitively tracked down to Youngyear

when a corporation is deceptive anything further is taken with a grain of salt
whichever way you cut it, your paying for that bling bling and marketing hype, and if the pricepoint is competative with plain jane high quality supplies, you have to ask yourself if the component quality is the same

y0 some quick questions on the X-finity:

- Does the 600w version have Interal pots for voltage adjustment (I'd need 3.3v and 12v adjustment...separately) --- otherwise, can it be done SEPARATELY w/ sense-wire mod?

- I already have an OCZ powerstream 520; if I get an X-finity 600w, which PSU do you think I should use for a HEAVILY overclocked/overvolted SLi/Opteron setup? I need a voltage regulation comparison; 3.3v I overvolt for the RAM, 12v is of course important too...

- Lastly ---> Will I get my damned rebate from this PNY 7800gt/cod2/Ultra/Tigerdirect deal if decide I want it? heh... :) --- I hope so, I think I'm going to bite

Thanks for any help

Are you building a second PC or actually considering replacing the OCZ with the X-Finity?

The OCZ 520ADJ is pretty damn solid. I wouldnt replace it if it wasn't broken. The only advantages I could think of by going with the Ultra is better efficiency and it's quieter, but that's it.

And the Ultra doesn't have pots.

Hmm

Well I was just going to use 1 supply for the CPU/Video/Mainboard, the rest for the fans, lighting (if any), and now possibly some pelts...

Looks like the OCZ stays on the main portion of the rig...

now there is a reason for a dedicated secondary power supply
the transformers in many a chaep light can dump all sorts of noise into the DC line of a PSU
and pelts definately are better on a dedicated PSU ;)

but I wouldnt get an ATX12V SMPS for either

I've had an X-Connect PSU running in my comp for a long time. They're not any more prone to defects than any other brand. I've seen your precious Antecs fail, I've seen PC Power & Cooling units fail...

It depends on whether I wanted to get there fast (Ferrari) or be 100% sure that I'd get there (Corolla).
