Horror of horrors, it turns out my Antec TruePower 420 is too weak to bear up under the load I'm dealing it. (Not fun, considering I was thinking about one last graphics upgrade.)
The setup is the one in my sig; will a ThermalTake 600 (or 650) be enough to drive the beast?

Try the Xclio 500w that's currently out of stock at 'egg for $55.. It should do it no problem.

Um, are you serious? I have the same PSU, way more hardware, and no issues.

In addition to my sig, I have added another 120GB SATA drive. Also, I do not mention my optical drives, a Panasonic 4x DVD +/- RW and a Samsung 16x DVD-ROM

You have more hard drives (I have one PATA and one SATA), but the problem is my AIW 9700 Pro (AIWs are notoriously more power hungry than their non-AIW counterparts) and the 3.3V rail (which is in an undervoltage condition if I drive the display). Also, I have the pre-2.0 version of the TruePower 420. My optical drives are the LiteON LDW-411S and Dynex DVDRW-16X dual-layer (both are DVD+/-RW burners). (It's also possible that the AIW itself could be going and is trying to take the PSU and everything else with it.)

How old is it? It's possible that it suffers from fuhjyyu syndrome.

All-in-Wonder 9700 PRO requires connection to your PC's internal power supply for operation. Consult your system builder or OEM to ensure your system has an adequate power supply. Otherwise ATI recommends a 300 watt power supply or greater to ensure normal system operation where a number of other internal devices are installed.

From ATI Website

Really, I'd be suspicious here. And the power consumption really is drastically different between idle and load conditions... for instance, on my X850, testing I found indicates 15W @ idle and 48.5W @ load on stock clock speeds. So to really chew up power (as you're suspecting the GPU) you'd need to be running a 3D app, like a game or something. Granted the DVD burners can chew some power also, but I doubt you're firing up Half-Life 2 whilst burning a DVD ISO of Linux and a DVD movie at the same time? :) If you are, then I guess "power user" really does apply!

I got the antec true power 430watt ver, It's powerfull enough to propell a P4 2.8, 6800GT, 2gb ram, 2hard drives 1 is 300gb other 160gb, and a dvd burner and a cdr+dvd reader. Your PSU must be faulty, if you going to get anything newer like I am, get a new one that's more powerfull.
