Hello, I'm thinking about purchasing the Antec Sonata III and I want to get a Xigmatek HDT-S1283 to cool a Q6600. W

Will the S1823 from Xigmatek fit inside the Antec Sonata III?

Since nobody seems to know, you could get the measurement from Antec's site, take off an inch for the motherboard tray and cpu and see if the 1283's height is less by a good margin. If not, well you tried your best!
 
I'm sure it will fit, the Sonta series cases are DEEP inside, they are deeper than most common cases.
 
I would agree with Ockie. The cases in my college computer labs were Sonatas and if the Sonata III's are built anything like they are, you should have no problems.

Biggest problem I have with it is the fan is on top of the cooler, so the warm air is exhausted into the side of the case. Aside from the fan on the rear panel, there is a space for one on the hard drive cage and that's it. If you are looking for excellent cooling, I would say this is not the first choice I would make. I bought the case because I got a smokin' deal on it, but Folding 24/7, my E6400 runs a bit warmer than I would like.

thanks. I've added a pair of WD 640gb hard drives since those pictures were taken and changed the SATA cable(s) from red to black, so that sticks out a bit less. I've got a 900 with my gaming setup in it, and I'm building a 300 with an everyday setup in it, so I wanted to prove to myself that I CAN do wire management, even though the 300 and 900 won't be nearly this easy.
 
That is some nice Sonata III cable management. From the looks of it, there seems to be a gab between the mobo tray and the hard drive bays? Is there one? Or do you have our wires routed through the holes in the drive bays?

I was also thinking of actually removing the side panel by removing the rivets and thus allowing for better cable management. It looks as if the mobo tray has a nice gab between that and the side panel.

I would love a P182 or a Cosmos because I kinda am partial to silence. However there are some severe budget constraints...

If I do get the Sonata what I think I am going to do is get yate loon high speed fans and just use a fan controller. That should allow temperatures to remain rather cool when loading up the computer.

As for the three hundred, it looks as if Antec really ruined the cable management system in that case. Though I am interested in that case also due to the air filters that come with it. I am on a tight budget. So much to decide.

I have both that case and that cooler (cooling that same CPU, in fact) - it fits just fine. I can post pics later if you like.

And a quick check on Coretemp 0.97 shows my Q6600 OCed to 3ghz idling at 33/33/30/30, in case you wondered :)
 
That's not bad temperatures. Not at all, if you can post pics that would be great, I always love seeing other people's rigs haha.

Just the fan that came with the cooler and the case fan that came with the Sonata set on medium speed. I probably used too much AS5 and my room is a little warmer than I'd like due to being on the sunny side of the house, so you might get better temps. Still, I have no complaints and it's a great cooler. Even at full tilt the sound is very pleasant to my ears, just a nice whooshing background noise.

I'll take an installed shot this evening, here's a shot of the setup and the board (removed) with the cooler/fan on it.

there is a gap behind the mobo tray, but it is really only visible with an mATX mobo. i didn't use that however because the edges are rolled in and are a bit sharp. I just ran the through the optical cage, and down to the hard drive cage. Even with 3 drives in there now, there is still room for the SATA and front connection cables, though it's a little tighter now. I'm thinking of cutting a little shield to go from the front of the PSU to the back of the optical cage to hide that clump of wires to make it look a little better.
 
thanks for posting these pics now i have some ideas as to how to place my wiring when i replace my stock intel hsf with a new $2 ocz vanquisher and my 7800gt with a radeon 4850 this afternoon. hopefully ill have pics by tomorrow :)
 
Guys, does the Sonata III have space for a front 120mm intake? I had my original Sonata set that way with water and it was great.
 
There is a spot on the "back" of the hard drive cage. on the side that is nearer to the middle of the case than the front. I'm hoping the Antec 300 I just bought came with the extra fans like recent ones have so I can put one in the Sonata.
