I'm dissapointed in Antec here. I thought that with this version they learned their lesson about the open ANTEC air inlets in the side of the system. These let in unfiltered dust and make a mess, I always tape them up.

Now with the Sonata II, they remove those crappy stencils, but add another unfiltered inlet in the back of the system, that is ducted directly to the processor. GAH! More tape inc.

P.S. Newegg is shipping the original Sonata with TruePower 380 2.0 powersupplies, with two 12 v rails, btw. 80-ish bucks for this is a steal.

Now not the egg hasn't screwed up almost every PSU possible at one point but they are showing the Truepower 380s in that case....as is Antec's site. And the Truepower 380s is not an ATX12v2.0 PSU: http://www.antec.com/specs/true380_spe.html

does anyone know where the front 120mm intake fan is mounted in the sonata II? does it mount to the chassis or to the front bezeL?

It mounts on the other side of the drives, theres no place up front. My Antec P180 will be here Mon to retire my Sonata

The new Sonanta II is the same way as well though they removed the gay "Antec" holes in the side panel and opened up the front panel to allow better airflow.

looks cool, but why the hell did they make that cooling thing for CPU?? also $120 is kinda TOO much.

To draw cool air direclty to the CPU of course and $120 isn't asking much for a good quality case. Try spending $200+ on Lian Li's and coolermasters. Quality DOES matter

Agreed, Most people want Ferrari's for old rusty 1974 Nova prices. It just doesn't happen. Pay now, or pay more later.

i know what quality is. i have Antec Soho 1000AMG. for some reason, i thought Sonata was more of a budget case.

That is a negative ghostrider. Their solution series cases would be the budget line.

ah gay....all this time i thot there was an actual intake fan ;(......say ice wind, do u think that fan on the hard drive cage helps the case temp at all?? cuz i juss took mines out and used it for a ghetto side intake instead

Fraid not bud, either get a 3700BQE or a different case entirely if you want front intake.

EDIT:

The front fan DOES improve the ability for the case to pull air through the front howeverf the Sonata 1 intake air is very restricte due to the amount of plastic and metal blocking it. I was amazed in "Night Wind" how much I had to hack away before I had decent airflow into my case, it was nuts.

The Sonanta II somewhat solves this by having much larger side intake on the front panel tthe HDD cage still restricts the airflow to much. I could still see air being sucked through my optical bays even to this day.

Yeah, newegg's description is wrong now. I've bought two old style Sonata 1's in the past week or so, and they both came through with 2.0 powersupplies, with 24 pin connectors. That connector is actually two piece though, the extra 4 pin 12v segment can be removed for old style 20 pin MB's.

EDIT: whosee amd set is that in the sonata with the ht-101 heatsink?

Antec has a great customer support but their products are nothing special. That goes for both, cases and power supplies.

I second that. The Antec cases I have worked with have been quality products.

In what way is Antec's quality better than the others?

Style, I personally think that antec is a good deal more interesting looking than some boring Lian-Li or coolermaster (I own a praetorian for my main pc... yuck )

Build Quality, you could stand on the damn (100% steel) things without the slightest fear of breaking them, also the isolated HDD mounts to prevent against vibration noise is a VERY nice touch, the finishes are always excellently done, and since they have mostly plastic bezels they save on some weight, easy (and cheap!) to replace. Also, a good deal of their cases have great Antec power supplies which have proven themselves to be excellent for stability in the past! The airflow is wonderful in them, and they rock for silence (Steel > aluminum) for sound dampening.

You didn't ansewer my question. What makes them better than the others? Slyte has nothing to do with quality. (I like green and you like red) What you said could by applied to any case. And as for noise, you don't know what quiet system means/is unless you're using suspended Notebook hard drives and maybe two large fans, at the most. One over the CPU and the other in the power supply spinning at 5 volts or less.

PS. My only Antec power supply died within 2 years. I will let you know when my new Antec PSU will die when it actually happens. (I'm not joking) Lets see if it will last longer than 2 years. I'm folding so you know...
To be fair, the new series version 2 is cheaper than alot of others.

Hey Guys!
I am considering buying one of these Sonata's from Newegg and I was wondering.
I currently have an Antec mid tower Bronze-Metallic case which I love, that came with a 350W PSU, it has the easily removeable HDD mounting brackets, that slide out for easy installation. (the harddrives do not face sideways in the case)

Okay to the question,
I have 2 IDE hdds with 2 of those big ugly SATA adapters on them, will these fit in the Sonata with the sideways arrangment or is this going to cause problems?

Thanks in advance!

Drew

why do you have SATA adapters? it doesnt increase performance... theres still a maximum that the HDD itself cant do...

My motherboard doesnt have onboard RAID 0 for the IDE Controller, and it does for the sata controllers, plus it came with the adapters.
I went ahead and ordered the case, I think it will fit. If anyone can confirm or deny, that'd be great, I still have time to cancel :p

Thanks,

Drew
