i am looking for a nice case for a rig i wanna build, and i was thinking of the antec sonata. it sounds like a good case because it has the 380 watt true power built into it, and it's only like 90$. the only thing is, i wanna put in some green cold cathode's and have a black/green color scheme in general. is there anywhere i could get a new door with a built in window for it, or do they just not make them, or would i have to build one myself? thanks in advance...

edit-oh yeah, i wanna keep it under 100$ too...[

if you are good with your hands you can order a side window from pc mod or any other mod website for computers. Or, you can go to newegg and find a case with a side window already built in.

yeah, but i really like that case, but i am only 16 and i'm pretty sure i don't have those kinds of capabilities at modding, especially since this will be MY first computer. i also like the power supply in that case for the price and knowing that it's an antec makes it all the better.

i own one of these, and absolutely love it.

putting a cc in it WOULD be possible... but tight. the case is not very large, and there's not a TON of room.... but yeah, it is doable. i was thinking the black light cc's i have would look neat shining thru the Antec punchouts on the sides, too. :)

16 aye? I started modding at your age. Take some woodworking classes and/or shop classes (learn things for life!). I picked put a $20 jigsaw from Walmart that I use for window cuts, get a Dremel too because your going to have to mod the Sonata yourself.

Cheap and easy, good to start modding on.
Another cheap and easy for modding.
Alittle more expensive but nice looking, good for modding too.
A number of companies use the same template for cases so the parts are pretty standardized.

Have fun!
Hell you could send me your side panel and I'll cut it for you as well as put the window in.

Well you pay for shipping but probably about $30 for basic shapes of all kinds and sizes. Complex things might cost more depending on how complex. I really wouldn't know since I've never really charged for it before but about 25-30 I guess.

nice... i'm trying to decide right now if i want to (externally) mod my sonata.... it's just so frickin' pretty already, you know? :)

LOL I know. I have a rather ugly Antec that I'm modding, shes going to be rather pretty after I'm done with her (she still needs a paint job), go ahead and give me a PM if you want to talk more about it.

all i would want is a basic sonata with a basic window that covers most of the side portion of the case... no fancy designs or cutouts or anything.

Well PM the size and we'll talk. Have you figured out where your going to get the plexi? I would recommend US Plastics. A sheet of 12x12 @ 1/8 thickness goes for under $2 but the shippings like $5. Although buying multi items seems not to affect it. I could order that for you too since I need to get some supplies anyways and just add it to the cost.

I've got a sonata too. Very nice case. I also have the vantex NXP-305 in it which comes with 2 blue cold cathodes. And what do you know? THere's 2 Antec cut-outs ;) You' gonna have to pull teh Power supply out to put the far side cold cathode in (only one side panel on this case) but it's not a big deal.

I've also heard rumors that you can get windowed sides from antec as replacements for any case. However, this might just be a rumor. But if you want to maintain that clean look it might be a good way to go. Just save your [pennies and wait for a while.

Lemmie know if you find this and I'll llet you know if I come accross it too. :)

Good luck. Wish I had that kinda money when I was 16 !

I haven't seen any, they do sell the front door though, but I had to contact them to get a replacement door for my Lanboy (classic) I can't buy the door instead I have to buy the front bezel for $15 so I decide to make my own. So the moral or the story is to contact Antec and ask them about a window panel for the Sonata.

very nice, man - you had to pull the ps to mount the inside one, i take it? i'd love to do it... i think i will in fact. :)

didnt have to pull the psu. theres that little shelf like thing on the back of the case, you put the light at an angle and feed it up there closest to the cd bays first.

put the velcro togahter tho so the ruff and soft are stuck then peel off the tape before you stick it up.

whole thing with drilling the hole for the switch took 20 min.

i'll just leave the switch on inside the case at this point. don't want to remove everything just to drill it out - took me long enough to make it look pretty as it is. :)

I've never seen the Sonata in person, how cramped is it? I've thought about getting one for a second PC but that kind of worries me.
