Antec SmartPower Not So Smart

I just bought a SmartPower 350 to replace my old TruePower 380 which had recently died. It's a nice power supply; only problem is:

This thing is loud!

Antec claims that after startup the PS will turn off one of its fans thus decreasing the noise and improving efficiency. This doesn't seem to be the case. It stays just as loud as it is during startup. There is absolutely no difference.

Does anyone know how I can quiet this thing down?
 
Did you connect the 3-pin fan monitoring cable? If so, try disconnecting it.
 
Rig in your system is using a Seasonic....

So I must ask what you are powering. Maybe its loud cause its operating close to full load, which also may point to one reason for the death of the last PSU.
