Hello,

Bought this power supply in January when I was building my Opteron 148 system. Anyway abotu 2 weeks ago it quit working it will not power my computer up at all and when I check it with a computer fan it barely will spin the thing.

The computer mobo lights will turn on but when I push the Power on button it won't do a thing and the lights on the mobo gets dim.

I bought the PS from newegg - I have the option of RMAing thru Newegg or RMAing thru Antec... What do you all recommend and is this going to be a bitch to get a new one that might work?

As if it's possible that a CWT Antec dies from something other then bad caps :D RMA it to Antec.

So I got my customer ticket number got the print out done and typed and all that... Will they give me an RMA number when I send it off or will I get one emailed to me once I fill out the little form with them wanting to know what happened.

RMA it, and when the replacement shows up sell it and put the cash towards a good PSU.

Agreed. For the rig in your sig, get the 460W Enhance ENP or Sytrin Nextherm.

You should RMA to Newegg. You're still in the 1 year free replacement period, they won't ask any questions.

I asked a long time ago when I will building this system and everyone recommended Antec. Now your not????

Whats one of them 460W PSU goes for... What will thing one bring NIB

Antec replaced it and will arrive tomorrow.

When the SmartPower 500 came out it seemed like a fantastic deal, I bought one myself. Lately, however, the SP500 (along with a lot of other Antec PSU's) have been failing left and right. Antec has slipped big-time in the last year.

So in a nutshell: Yes, we recommended them, but not anymore.

I used to be a big Antec PSU nut. But given their recent quality control problems, I am hesitant to recommend them. Until that company cleans up its act on new PSU's, I am now recommending alternatives from other brands instead. The current SmartPower 2.0 line has been having numerous problems with DOA's (units which are dead on arrival). And Antec has recently ended its supplying contract with CWT for its midrange and high-end units.

By the way, the SmartPower 2.0 line is currently being phased out, and replaced by the new Basiq line. I don't know which company manufactures the Basiq line at this time.

Antec doesen't ask any questions either. They know their PSU is crap and they'll keep replacing it with the same model until you get sick of wasting time by running to UPS every other week.

The SmartPower PSU's can no longer be recommended due to quality control problems. :(

I think my SP 500w is crapping out after about 5 months of use. It randomly makes a high pitched noise which I've read is not great. I'm currently building a Conroe system costing me over a grand and I don't want to risk my new system to a bad PSU so I ordered a Corsair 620w. It costs 3 times what I paid for my Antec so I hope it's worth it.

Slapped by the fuhjyyu plague. The 520W probably would've been fine, but ok.

What about the Antec Neo HE 550's? I heard these were good PS's, and when one came up on sale for 70$ w/free shipping I bought it. The PS is currently backordered, and I don't need it for a bit, so if the general recommendation is that they stink, then I want to cancel while I can!

The HE's & Trio's are built by Seasonic & are doing fine. ;)

NeoHE, good PSU, despite most modular supplies, although isn't typical Seasonic quality.

The 620 cost $40 more than the 520. I figure might as well spend a little extra and never worry about it again. Plus the red matches my color scheme ;)

Decided to go ahead and give Antec one more try before I make the next move... Got it in with a letter of apology and all that junk.

Hooked it up here are my stats according to Smartguardian.

CPU: 1.37V - No Overclock as of yet
LDT Bus: 1.18V
ATV +5.0V 5.01V
DRAM: 2.6V
ATX +12V: 12.16V
NB +1.5V: 1.49V
ATX + 3.3V: 3.28V - A wee bit low
VBAT +3.0V: 3.1V

This is the last shot for Antec since their RMA and all that was very easily and no hassle. I will keep this thread updated as to what happens. Money has it says it'll screw up in the nextfew months but we'll see.

FYI= Antecs <Basiq> line, is made by (FSP) Fortron, Thank GOD. This info is from Jonny-Guru's site, via the UL license numbers section. I bought the 500 watt version, because I was in a pinch, but so far, it's solid ! It does have active PFC, and split 12v rails @ 2x18amps - 30 & 30 for the 3.3v & 5v rails.

I just replaced the same Antec Smartpower. It crapped out after about 8 months of light usage and it wouldn't boot up. I think it took my graphics card with it because I get artifacting now even with my new power supply.

My SP500 crapped out with light usage as well. It's at Antec for rma but it's taking them a bit long since they have no stock of the SP500 right now. They told me that I *should* be getting the TRIO as a replacement but we'll see.

More info please, define a lot? When I built my E6600 in my sig I got an Antec 550W TP 2.0, in August-06, it hasn't hic-upped. I have the same in my Athlon 3500+ rig and a 430W TP 1.0 in an Overclocked for four years P4C 2.6@3.26GHz rig in my Den pulling HTPC duties. A 350W model is still powering a P4 Willy for at least 6 years now. So am I just lucky or these don' t fall under the new bad QC tag? I like Fortron and Seasonic better. At least Antec has a great return policy. I wish I could say the same for Enermax and Thermaltake. I saw far more their PSUs die than Antecs.
