I just purchased this for a dell xps 400. any feedback on this and how easy is it to install.
reason for upgrade was for a new video card evga nvida 7900GS KO.

Did Dell use to have proprietary pin outs on their boards? If you have one of those and hook a standard power supply to it...say bye bye to the board.

I put a new psu in a Dell 4500 and it works fine. But on the 4500 I had to cut out the back plate because the holes and such didn't line up.

Should be compatible. I custom modded a Dell motherboard / internals from an SC420 server to fit an Antec 1080AMG case, and it's powered by an Ultra X-Finity 500w. ATX power connectors are universal ... I think?

Should work just fine, for about six months. That's about how long you can expect the capacitors in that thing to last with the lousy airflow it will be getting in a Dell.

That's if you do it stock; if you can find the fan control and bypass it so fans run 100% all the time, then i'd give it a year. Else, 6-9 months.

Hell, if you've got it open, just re-cap it. Then you'd have a decent PSU.

The problem here is the lack of case cooling ability,
to truly fix it via the Antec you need to re-fan the Antec & yes you might as well re-cap it, too.

While you're at it, bling it up, redo it with a modular kit, and paint racing stripes on it.
