I have an antec SLK3700 I just got from my friend, it's one of the earlier models so the fan grille at the back is surprisingly restrictive and so I was wondering what I need to do before I cut it out. I want the cut to look nice like this: http://www.silentpcreview.com/files/images/antec3700/back_open.jpg

I heard I may need wood or something? I've got cutting oil, dremel, titanium drill bit (one for the pilot hole) and another for making the actual cut vertically and a circle guide.

Just, mask off the area, and if you're using a dremel, go slowly.

If you're using a hole saw (which I don't recommend) just power through it, but place it on a wooden block first.

How do you mean 'mask off'?

I think you should search some more on SPCR. Cutting out grills is covered extensively. If I remember correctly Weiss tin snips are preferred over a dremel.

Mask off, means to cover the area in masking tape to prevent any minor scuffs from your tool.

Well I cut out the back and while it does look like ass, it's functional. Putting the wire guard makes it look much much better than otherwise, draws attention away from the shitty cut job.

Since the mesh guard in the front isn't nearly as bad, I'm still wondering whether or not I should cut it out as well.

Since I removed the guard in the back, that damned plastic rention bracket was also removed (managed to restrict airflow as well) and since it's got a propritary mounting mechanism, I drilled new holes that partly molded into the older holes, none the less, the fan mounts properly now.

In order to open the pictures, you need to copy the link into the browser and load it directly.

Your pics don't work, says something about not being authorised :(

Read the blue. So basically what you do is you select the link, highlight the url copy, then paste into a browser and load it. If it doesn't load on the first try, hit enter then hit refresh.

Nope... I can't get it to work. In Safari or IE, under os X or XP :).
You're probably inputting the URL incorrectly. You need to do properties of the URL, copy it, load it into the browser and load the page. If it doesn't load the first time, hit enter then refresh.

that's way too much work just to look at a pic. Use Imageshack, you'll get better response from people here ;)

but on the topic of your cut...you may have been able to do better with some pre-practice cutting, but I would suggest some plastic/rubber molding to go around the edges there. For one, it'll hide the jagged edges and make it look cleaner. Two, it'll cover up those jagged edges which can cause more air turbulance and thus more noise (no one wants a computer that whistles :p )
