recently had my PC go down and after ruling out the motherboard i have now bought a PSU and CPU. i have just installed the antec 480w truepower PSU and when i boot up it gives me a continual beeeeeeeeeeeep from the PSU. my friend's antec PSU did the same thing on my system last night. any ideas what the power supply is trying to say?...
thanks

here is a rundown of my system before the problems started happening:

abit ic7
P4 2.4C @ 2.533
4 PC3500 256mb memory modules
2 SCSI hdds
SCSI controller card
4 IDE hdds
BFG 6800
echo mia pci soundcard
a few fans
330w enermax psu lol

i had the system running like this for almost 2 years and it seemed as though the system went down when i plugged in my digicam via usb. after that the system will not post. when i power it on i get the solid HDD led for about 50 seconds then the led goes dim and the system remains powered on but no monitor/keyboard/mouse. the system does not seem to read the drives or anything. replacing the board did nothing and now im onto the PSU with a CPU on the bench.

Got some good news... or maybe not.

Have you plugged your VGA card into your power supply? The 6800's screem if you don't, or if there is simply not enough power available.

The power supply has no speaker to beep... the 6800 does.

Good luck!

I've taken apart many ATX power supplies and none I have taken apart ever had any speakers in them. There is no use for a speaker in a power supply. The only big problem a power supply can have is if it's dead...where it wont turn on...no buzzing! I also have an Antec TrueBlue 480W (which is the same as the TruePower but with lights) and there is no noticeable speaker in it. And there shouldnt be one. If there is then I havent heard it but there is no use for it. The Sound is coming from somewhere else in your computer. If it is coming from the PS then maybe it's a fan or something.

Hope this helps ya,
...Dan
