Antec Phantom

My friend got one and installed.

The PSU actually have a fan inside; but since the PSU aluminum case work as a heat-sink (or heat spreader; what ever they call it), the fan rarely turn-on.

Thus this PSU were very quiet, but the case will be notice-able warmer if compare to regular PSUs'

His comment : satisfactory PSU :D

I'm now using the SevenTeam 500W external PSU (aka: MGE/XG "600W")

$139.99 < $147.99

SevenTeam > Channelwell

12V @ 38A > 12V @ 35A

Cool blue LCD w/ temp and wattage > nada.

;)

External > Internal: less heat in the case.

How are these things?

I don't care for them... OEM is Channel Well, who often uses caps that don't tolerate heat well over the long haul. Not a good thing in a PSU with no fan :(

The Silverstone/Etasis fanless unit and the Fortron Zen are the only two internal fanless units I would personally consider. The Seventeam external would be a better solution though, since it's not in the case to begin with.

I do have Seventeam's External PSU of 500W & 600W; both of them have fan inside.

True. Nobody said they didn't.

But at least it hadly ever spins and because it's mounted deep inside, it's noise is rather dampened.

The Antec barely ever spins either, but the fan is right on the outside wall of the PSU.

I have the Phantom 350 in my rig running ECS KV2-Lite MOBO with AMD X2 3800+, 2GB RAM, ATI AIW 9800 Pro 256MB, 160GB SATA drive, DVD Burner. three fans running on a speed controller

The 350 is as claimed totally silent (very important since it runs 24/7 next to my bed).

I never heard of "Seventeams"..what is it exactly?

And what site can I get the one you guys are talking about?

You can also get it here for a couple of bucks cheaper but not knowing the shipping costs it could end up costing more or even less.

It's not a bad PSU although I don't like the fact that XG calls it a 600W PSU when all the documentation in the manual clearly states it's 500W.

so with an external PSU, where do you keep it? Are the wires longer and they feed through the back?

There's a plate that mounts where the normal PSU mounts. On that plate there are 3 sockets facing the outside of the case and the normal PSU cables facing the inside (why they didn't make it modular is beyond me) and from the PSU itself to the plate runs 3 removable cables.

The cables only have enough length to allow the PSU to sit on top of your case unless you're using a desktop style case, then the PSU could sit behind it.

Edit: Thanks for the linkage Jon!

and the wires feed into where the PSU "would" go, but isn't that bad for dust and stuff?

There's a plate sealing that hole. Read the reviews Jonny linked, the pics will make it easier to understand.

Will do, thanks..

i bought a damn expensive desk and the stupid thing has my comp in that cubby thing...there's no room at all..i wanna drill a hole out the sides of it for more air at least.

Personally I use my PC cubby for CD storage. At one point I had reversed my fans and used a ducted blowhole for exhaust so I could use the cubby but that was due to lack of space to put my tower. If you've got the room do your PC a favor and don't stick it in a box with a door.

Yea, if i have the space...something I don't have lol...I wish I could have it elsewhere
