Antec P180

$$$ :(

i wouldnt be surprised if the prices shoot up to 180-200$ upon initial release in stores/etailers.

damn what a hefty amount to spend on a case, but then again its sooo nice. ahh well...

We'll see... it's common for many stores to jack up prices on newly-released stuff that's in high demand, but I doubt that there's a *huge* mass of people waiting for this case to justify a gauge-- despite what it looks like here... let's see how it looks on Newegg-- which is where I'll probably buy it from (why not-- I've spent almost 3K there in the last few months...)

this is what im planning on doing... just leaving the rig open in open space without a case until the prices drop to reasonable levels. :p

of course ill be keeping it safe somewhere where nobody would 'accidentally' step on my stuff.

Still no sign of the P180 being released soon...
I sent another email to a retailer in Australia, here's the reply:

Code:
Hi,

Thank you for your email, sorry still no firm ETA on these units, but it
will still be a while I believe.

Kind regards,

Stefan (CoolPC)

I hope it arrives soon though, I've got computer parts arriving in like 2 weeks, so I hope the case is out by then.

I'm also guessing, that with this extra time, the case will be a little bit different to the ones we've all seen in the online previews.

Looks like you might want to get a generic case like I did-- going open-air for a that long is crazy....

Dammitt Antec-- get your shit together. Jesus.

Antec isn't doing anything wrong lol. Its like being upset because Unreal Engine 3 isn't out yet... "BUT I SAW SCREEN SHOTS 4 MONTHS AGO IT SHOULD BE OUT NOW WHAAA"

Antec stated when they showed the cases that they were all early in development, hell they never even mentioned whether they would actually make the P180 or not. For some reason you all got it in your heads that this case was supposed to be released a month or two ago when in reality Antec probably never had any plans to release this thing before june or july at the earliest. Best thing to do is just sit and wait patiently...perhaps by the time this case comes out the AthlonX2s and the Sapphire RS480 Enthusiast board will both be available as well :D

It is always impossible to say "exactly" when a product will arrive in a
particular market. For example, unforeseen and unpredictable delays in
shipping or customs clearance can sometimes result in extra weeks of delay
despite our best efforts. I think we can safely say that the P180 will be
available around the end of April.

Hi,

Thank you for your email, we will stock it when it becomes available, my
supplier indicated that it will be at least another 4 weeks before they
are available though.

Kind regards,

I found this info on the 25th of March.

I 'got into my head' that the Antec P180 would probably be released by a time up to 2 weeks from now, and given theinfomation I found a month ago, it was not a 'crazy' idea for me or other people to have. I did not expect those dates given to be binding, however.

What gave you the 'crazy' idea that Antec 'planned' to release the P180 at June or July at the earliest?

(And saying that companies like Microsoft, Intel, Nvidia, ATI and a host of others who have deliverd products late doesn't count, because they never 'planned' to release their producs late)

I also believe April was mentioned on other sites. Do your homework before you try to go pwning someone or they'll end up pwning you harder.

Really... I actually prefer this to some email some guy got and posted on some forum somewhere. (It is hard to find the first time that was posted though I think it goes back to a french msg board, go figure) Even though the quote is from an Antec guy, it is clearly guess work. Anyways here is the quote I prefer referring to when it will be released :

Reason why I won't post dates/confirm dates:

Every date I've ever been given for a product launch has always been pushed back in the 7 years I've been at Antec (I'm talking about dates flung around the office). Such that until it's in the warehouse (in Fremont), it's not here in my mind. So why that happens?

a) final production sample not up to our standards (this has happened a few times now). This sucks BTW, but we'd rather get it right.
b) manufacturing delays (either labor, parts availability etc)
c) shipping delays (notably bad weather, dock worker strikes or rarely customs)
d) testing of early samples shows a flaw and we have to retool/redesign.
e) packaging/manual issues (fairly rare now, previously shoddy quality/bad images etc etc)

I think that covers it. Also bear in mind we're doing everyting we can to get everything shown at CES out as soon as possible.

And PM'ing me about this at best gets, "I don't know." Normally I ignore them, especially when there's a well read thread about the product/s in question.

Some other things to keep in mind:
It takes up to 2 weeks for the channel to get the new stuff after we get here in Fremont (basically once you see a webpage for a new product you can be sure it's at least been in our Fremont warehouse). Normally though places will show it as in stock within a week (ie since Newegg has a warehouse in CA it doesn't take them too long to get it).

Canada: Figure 2 to 3 weeks after we get in Fremont. This depends of course the various Canadian distributors have ordered the new stuff.

Europe: Can be up to 2 months later, however we want to get this to the point that we can launch products there at the same time as North America.

There you go, all the reasons as to why Antec has never officially given any release date at all whatsoever. Anything else said is merely just speculation. The best thing to go by here is as was stated, when the product appears on the website it should be available about 2 weeks afterwards.

So please, you do your homework and stop assuming rumor as fact.

You seem to be ignoring the fact that people would like to have a semblance of a time frame of when a product will be released. A 'wait till the product is available' approach is useless for these people.

Trying to find the date for the release of a product (especially computer hardware) is speculation. Dates and time frames given should not be considered 'hard' or factual.

However some people do need or want the best case in the near future, and for this reason are interested in the release date of the P180. Don't berate people for trying to plan their purchases, and find a reasonable time frame for a product's release.

Ideally, Antec would communicate with their customers exactly where they are at with a product. This would keep people informed, and manage expectations, but for strategic/resouce reasons, this probably wont happen.

Well the reason why Antec doesn't communicate release dates is because they simply dont know. Antec doesn't know when they will be done with a product, because they dont know if they will be satisfied with it on version 1 or version 5, that is the problem. Which personally I think is a good thing, it shows that they are interested in giving the best product possible.

I am not berating people for wanting a release date, I am doing so for them getting upset when the product isn't released in the speculated time frame. Give Antec a break and let them deliver a product that they will be proud to bring to market, rather than a case with minor flaws all over the place.

Do you think it would be a good idea if Antec communicated where it was at with the P180? (Both to see what features/specifications people wanted and so people had a somewhat accurate expected time of release.)

How 'bout easing up on the moralizing Erasmus-- we're just fans of an upcoming design who are excited about it's release. Speculation is part and parcel of that-- and given that we have seen many indications over the last few months that the target release dates have approached, passed, and been re-set, it's unsurprising that people like me are annoyed by it. That doesn't mean that I think Antec is teh poop, or that I'm actually pissed.

Missed production dates are the rule, not the exception-- I know that, you know that, and so does everyone else here who isn't 14 years old (even they'll learn eventually;) )

Now...back to regularly scheduled programming...

I emailed Antec about this case about 2 weeks back through the reseller program...they said that it was still in develpment and that while a concrete date couldn't be given...June or July was a good estimation.

We really wanted this case for a demo box, but we ended going a different route becuase we didn't want wait potentially up to 3 mos.

Sux, I hated to hear it, especially some of the sales guys because they were drooling over the pics that had shown up online...

Merriam-Webster said:
Main Entry: 1ru·mor
Pronunciation: 'rü-m&r
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English rumour, from Middle French, from Latin rumor clamor, gossip; akin to Old English rEon to lament, Sanskrit rauti he roars
1 : talk or opinion widely disseminated with no discernible source
2 : a statement or report current without known authority for its truth
3 archaic : talk or report of a notable person or event
4 : a soft low indistinct sound

The people saying March, April, May, whatever had a quite discernable source: Antec themselves, meaning that definition one is unapplicable. Two doesn't work because the authority, again, is Antec. Saying that applies here is like saying that the September-whatever date for HL2 last year was a rumor just because it didn't happen. Up until they changed their tune, it was the official date. Three is an archaic and overly broad definition that could apply to any conversation, and four definately does not apply.

That was the date that Antec gave us. They changed it. Don't blame the people repeating what the company gave us, when the company obviously knows a lot more than anyone here about what's going on with this case.

Im still holding out for this case, even though I have seen a bunch of good reviews for the V1000, those are still more expensive than the price we last heard of $159 or something like that. Anyone else ever remeber a case getting this much anticipation?

Let me clear some things up.

Originally PD wanted to get the P180 out by the end of February. However some testing done in house produced some changes to the design (notably the duct system picture was changed because the 120mm fans worked better then we thought, and the whole duct was not needed). This then required changes to the manual, box etc etc etc.

As it stands the ballpark date (ie not firm) is late May/June.

I'm gonna hold you to that, buster !!!!!

:p

*** PS-- need a "beta" tester? I might be available to test one of your early units ;)

I like Antec cases but i don't really like Sonata, i find it very hard to believe its their most popular model by far. I don't mind P160 but it bit too big for me, so i'm not really interested in P180..

My fav is superlanboy by far, i have two now. Its light, small, good air-flow, i like how u install the hdd in other way n hide all the cables behind it, great cable management, cool blue fans, windowed side panel, + small storage compartment.

Where is super lanboy 2??

eh i own a sonata and its a great case, quiet, sleek, simple and comes with a VERY nice powersupply (true power 380s w/ 24amps on +12V) but i believe they should provide better airflow with it lik maybe a 120mm intake fan lik they did with the super lanboy and p160, which is a great case with the professional workstation look to it so i am eager to see the p180 and id LOVE to hav one but ill most likely stick to my sonata.......superlanboy? eh i dont lik the front grill or the whole front bezel and besides the fact taht its flimsy, its a great case but id prefer the lanboy's front bezel.......so for the super lanboy 2 im hoping for antec to fix the ugly front bezel :D

Grr, maybe i don't like superlanboy so much anymore.. 2nd one just got reset button stuck!!! first time i used it. I can't even turn on the pc anymore. I'm gonna get P160 case.. even tho its bit big, its reasonably light so i can live with it. Too bad P180 isn't available now.. anyway should i get the one with the window or without? i'm planning on using antec 120mm blue fan at the front, (and also at the back if i get the one with window).

Doh i should be able to turn it on if disconnect the reset cable on the mobo..

Luckily for you, theyre also making a Sonata II, which has everything youve mentioned you wanted changed, as well as removing the ANTEC lights that let in so much dust: http://www.thetechlounge.com/article.php?directory=ces_05_antec&page=4

eh sonata II doesnt really interest me and i hav no plans for buying it but i do lik the 120mm intake, i could care less about losing the antec lights or ANTEC logo stamped in the side which id keep for aesthetic reasons ( would look great with bak lighting) so imma keep my sonata and find a way to modd a 120mm intake but if all fails ill put a 92mm instead ;)

Just thought I'd let people know that one of the suppliers my store deals with now has a listing for the P180. There's no listing for an ETA, though there is a cost price listed.

Description: ANTEC P180 MID TOWER-ALUMINUM NO POWER SUPPLY
Vendor: ANTEC INCORPORATED
Cost: $167.76
Retail: $201.93

Bear in mind that these are Canadian prices, and are probably subject to change.

Coolness--

I wonder how many people are going to buy a 160 from that site thinking it's the 180...

Just checked today, my supplier has updated their info :) :) :) :) Canadian prices, subject to change, etc. etc. etc.

I've been hearing news about how Antec have begun to post some data about the P180 on their website, and I contacted a local supplier. Here's the response:

Hi,

Thank you for your email, should have it available next week.
