its a case.

im just curious how accurate these are. ive got one under a mosfet sink and one in open air to see the ambient temp.

first i had the mosfet probe stuck between the fins on the sink, directly under a 40mm fan, and it would read about 45 under load. now ive got it taped to the underside of the sink and it reads 37 load. i can see the edge of the tape and its still on good.

Frag tape isn't good for temp reading. I just use 3M polypropylene electrical tape to attatch my probes. Just tape it directly onto the metal. Rubber electrical tape is a no-no, get the polypropylene stuff, it's far more reliable and it's incredibly thin.

Problem with frag tape is that although it's more conductive than double-sided scotch tape, it's still not as good as bare contact.

What could have happened in your case is the probe could have been under pressure from teh fins pressing on it....that would often give a more accurate temp.

In all truth..the best way to do temps is to drill a spot in the heatsink to mount the probe inside of (packed in with lots of good thermal grease), but i doubt many of us will do anyhting of that sort.
