Antec Neopower 480

wow that beats it by another 20 bucks since ground shipping is free. Thanks!

Just go it delivered!! now all i gotta do is look at it waiting for the P5AD2-E that it's gonna run :D

There's a lot of talk about the Neopower missing a pin #5 (Antec manual notes pin is Not Connected), while the ASUS P5AD2 manual says that pin is needed for -5V.. More than a few posts on forums about people having trouble with this combo, boot problems, crashes, etc..

AntecRep!! pls help..

almost all ATX12V v2.0 supplies wont have the -5V rail it was removed from the spec
I dont know what the @&^%!!@#@! ASUS is thinking but the ATX12V v2.0 spec has been out over a year an was specifically developed to address PCI-E

dont look to the AntecRep, your options are very limited, alter one or the other
and give ASUS a peice of your mind while your at it

ATX12V v2.0 February 2003
ATX12V v2.01 June 2004
and it was indevelopment for considerably longer

ASUS is asleep at the wheel
nothing has used the -5V rail in ages and ages

Hmmm maybe they are as asleep at the wheel as I thought, the 2.01revision in June was when it was removed, never the less your going to have a hard time finding an ATX12V v2.01 compliant supply with the -5V rail

I guess I'll know when the MB gets here

I've seen a few posts of people having issues with the P5AD2/-E and Neopower 480, anyone here got one?

If not, does your 24-pin supply have the wire to pin 5 missing?

You mean you don't have an official ISA slot in your dually rig? (last known good use I can remember for the -5v pin)

Also, being so close to Christmas you will need to add this to the power supply equations:

No true 1337 user will be without one.

I've had one for a couple months now... I LOVE IT! :) No issues with pin adapter. Way quieter than my old regular Antec 400, and, well, just better all around, obviously. Sexy PSU.

BOTTOM LINE:

IT WORKS.. (really)

my P5AD2-E and NeoPower 480 have been rockin the block for a month now..

the P5AD2-E doesnt use the -5V rail
and this red herring is offically laid to rest thanks to the help of acidfr33k :D

Are there any other asus motherboards that seem to have this problem? In particular, does anyone have any experiences with the A8V?

none of them appear to have this problem :p

its a non-issue cooked up by someone guessing wildly about the cause of some isolated issue they where having and blaming the lack of an archaic rail that nothing really employs anymore

unless your planning on trying to power up an antique with an old ISA bus, dont give it a second thought
