I have an AMD Athlon x2 clocked at 2.8 with mobo lying around as well as enough components to make a secondary system. I saw a deal for a decent case and a antec earthwatts 430 watt psu almost new on craigslist and was wondering if the psu could handle this cpu and my 6870 for when I upgrade GPU's in the next year.
The mobo has onboard video so until I upgrade it is still usable.
Also, if I upgrade my cpu in my main I will throw my i5 750 in there with the 6870. Can it power that?
Thanks for any help.

Eh, I'd stray away from buying a PSU on Craig's List, but that's just me. What's the price?

It may work but it depends on what other peripherals you have in your PC and how much ampage the PSU can deliver on the 12V rail.

Use this: http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

If you are buying a new PSU, I see no reason to go super budget. The PSU is one of the more important parts of a computer if you ask me. :)

That site claims that 321 watts is good enough. The reason I am getting it cheap is because it is a secondary system made from old parts I have lying around. It is a good PSU from what I have heard

The Earthwatt 430 is for my spare computer. I already have a 650w XFX XXX edition that is amazingly overpowered on my main rig which would recieve the new card.
The 430 needs to run just my 6870 and the AMD Athlon x2 and according to the Wattage calculator posted above it has more than enough power even if I overclock from 2.6 to 3.0.
Also I really need a case and want to avoid the milk crate solution.
So then you can see how 29 bucks is a good deal for the case and PSU.

Thank you all for the help if there is anything more please post it.

My kids PC has a similar PSU in the Corsair 430 running an Athlon dual core and a 4850 1GB (kinda power hungry card), runs just fine.

if i lived near there you would have competition to snap that up

sonatas are nice and earthpowers are pretty reliable, that 430 prob has similar guts to sketchier brands' "650w" units

Most EA units have two rails. I noticed a smoother experience 'in game' when I switched to a single rail system.

Actually, the way most so-called "multi-rail" PSUs are set up, there is only one actual rail with multiple wires connected to it. Each of those wires has its own OCP limit set. The actual single rail in the EarthWatts PSUs has its own capacity limit set (in the case of the current EA430D Green, this set total +12V limit is 32A). In other words, very, very few "multi-rail" PSUs actually have multiple +12V rails. Plus, a good "multi-rail" PSU actually redistributes the current from a fully utilized wire to one of the underutilized wires if one of them is close to its OCP limit.
