Antec/Cheiftec Case fan question!?!?

Hello, Maybe one of you guys can help me with this. I have the Antec SOHO case that is pretty widespread among this forum Im sure you know the one im talking about. Anyway, the case inside has these purple Plastic clips that you clip the 2 case fans in the back to.

Well I purchased some thermaltake smart fans for the back 2 case fans but I cant install the grills??? Is there a special type of screw to use??? And even if I did get the grill on I dont think it would clip in all the way because the grill is too thick for the purple clip to clip over. If ANYONE knows what im talking about and has made a solution please POST any suggestions or comments. To be honest I really like the grills that the fans came with and was upset to see that the HOMO looking purple clips prevent me from using them.


Is there a way to get away with out using thoes clips??? I didnt see and holes to screw right into and it doesnt line up well to drill my own either. Thanks guys!
 
yeah thats the downfall of those flamin fan holders. only way to install the grills is prolly the inside of ur case. those fan holders should have screw like extruding things on em where u just snapp the grill in...maybe?
 
No the fans came with these long brass screws with nuts and you can install them but it wont clip into the fan holder....
 
just drill out the lil stubs that are part of the holder and countersink the back side, then you can use whatever screws you wish
 
What do you mean countersink the backside??? Yea good idea about drilling out the stubs . You must have had to deal with this problem.
 
by countersink, i mean; drill it out, then switch to a larger bit and drill part way through from the back, just enough so that the screw head will recess enough to be flush with the purple plastic fan holder...
this will allow the holder to still clip onto the case

The fans are in my comp right now clipped in with the purple plastic HOMO big clunky clips already. But I cant fit my fan grills on there cuz then it makes the fan too thick for the clips to catch.

I found these things on frozencpu.com that are called fan grill seperators that lift the grill up a bit. I think that would work but then im not sure if the fan screws will be long enough to go through the grill and the seperators and screw into the fan.

I dont think countersinking anything will help me with what im trying to do. Thanks for the suggestion though. Lates
 
fan screws are the way to go, I'd almost drill holes or something to see if you can dodge out of using the purple fan holders...
 
I wish you guys could see what Im dealing with... Theres like maybe 2 holes i could drill in the case per fan, Cuz theres so many holes to begin with, but there venilation holes so there to big to screw into ya know? Guess Im just gunna have to deal with ugly homo looking plastic holders! Thanks!
 
I know what you are referring to. There are too many holes from the fan holder clips to use regular fan mounting screws. On a friends computer I used some funky double grill thingy from B.G. Micro. I dont know if they still have them. Not the best looking perhaps, but it allowed me to cut out the case grills for better ventilation yet offers some protection from the fans.
 
you could always do what i did.... get out your dremel and put in a 120mm fan.

Yea its kinda pissing me off... I orderd some grill stand offs and some heavy duty fan screws. Will see if that works.
 
I have come up with a solution to my case fans. Looks good now too. Ill post some pics up soon. I have to figure out how first. LOL
