Was thinking of getting a new case to replace my TT tsunami. Just curious what everyone thinks of the antec p182?

Other thought was maybe the antec 900 but it is a little much with the lights/leds.

Would like to keep it down to ~$140.

btw is it generaly better to have the Power supply on the bottom? Seems alot of newer designs are doing this???

Open to other suggestions.

From a purely heat transfer standpoint, it's a little counter-intuitive on whether the power supply being on the bottom is a good thing.

(basic logic states that heat rises)

However.......not having the PSU on the top allows most of those new cases to have a fan on the top of the case......which makes a lot of difference.

Also, many of those cases (such as the popular antec 182 series) have compartmentalized sections for the PSU, so the impact from heat air transfer is very minimal, if it even exists at all.

One could also argue that having the PSu on the bottom makes cable management more difficult, since most motherboards have the power leads on the top of the board, since in most cases the PSU is on the top.

However, most PSU's have ridicilously long power cords anyways, and let's not forget that most of the newer cases allow you to run all the wires underneath the mainboard nowadays, so again, that really has little impact.

I like the PSU on the bottom personally. I find it easier to get all of the cables running in a somewhat organized fashion. This will vary depending upon which components you have though.

FWIW, I'm very close to switching from an Antec P160 to the gun metal 182. I think I will like it a lot more!

Cirkustanz,

I have the P182 and you summed everything up pretty good. I like my P182 for all the reasons you stated.

Just thought of another question.
I have a Sunbeam Rheobus Fan Controller that I bought a long time ago but never used. The p182 already has fan controls for the three 120mm fans, right? Aren't they on the rear? I've heard people say that there are 3 settings for them. Could I hook up this Sunbeam controller instead and be able to throttle them from the front? Will the door have enough clearence from the knobs on the sunbeam?

If not, no big deal. I bought it a year or so ago for another build but never used it.

The door would definitely have enough clearance.

One thing I was concerned with was that it "only" comes with 3 case fans, (1 intake, 2 exhaust) so I bought another 120mm Antec 3speed fan so that I would have another intake fan to get enough air for the GTX card. Other than that the case is sweet. Very satisfied.

Thanks. Dou you think the case fans would be better off going through the sunbeam controller or should I just leave it alone? I also read that the p182 only has controls for 2 of the three fans. Like you I was thinking of getting another fan for intake. And with the sunbeam I would be able to control all 4, right?

still looking for opinions on whether or not I should use the fan controller?????? I get the case in tomorrow but probably won't start building for a few days.

if those fans gets too loud i'll definitely use the fan controller.

I run my fans at medium speed. If I go to low it is very quite but the temps go up a few degrees, but not too much. Try the fan controls that come on the case and see how you like them. If you don't, set the fans to high and hook up the Sunbeam fan controller.

Love my Antec P160 with custom side window w/120 fan on video card, 120mm top blowhole and aluminum handles

Antec cases are nice, I have the in which is going to be my backup machines case when I am done with it.

I like the P180... it's a little heavy, but quiet and spacious. Just got to make sure your power supply has long enough cables since the PSU goes on the bottom of the case, not the top. Got the air filters too.
