Antec Aria PSU replacement? (quieting)

I got hold of an Aria to stick a MATX 939 board into (A8V-VM. Laugh, go ahead... Deltachrome actually didn't turn out too bad for the HTPC use). It seemed to tick all the right boxes. Built it up, switched it on, and it's all quite nice and quiet. I'm thinking 'Yay! Success!". Then left it on for an hour while running some HTPC stuff.

Gents, I came back to a jet engine. This PSU is crap.

There's a 3000+, the A8V-VM, 1Gb of RAM, 400Gb SATA Barracuda, a Liteon DVD-RW and a Hauppauge tuner. OK, so it might be a decent load for the PSU but jeez, it's louder than many $20 PSU's I've seen in cheapo cases I've bought.

Is ther anything I can do about the PSU or replace it with something a whole lot quieter?
 
You may have got a shotty fan/psu.. Mine isnt super quiet, but its not noticable when its by my feet. If its that bad, swap out the fan. If you want a bigger psu regardless, I wont suggest a new case. Im runnin my aria with a 500w Fortron PSU mounted on the back where the original PSU goes, outside obviously. More power, and its quieter. Again, just replace the fan if its that bad...
 
The fan doesn't seem to be faulty as such. It just seems to spin up to a high speed rather quickly and justifiably so it seems as it's throwing out quite a lot of heat. Is even a 3000+ & the Barracuda too much for it?
 
I highly doubt that your specs are what is keeping your PSU from running quite. If the PSU is a smart PSU and as such varies the fan speed depending on heat output, then im guessing that one of two things could be going on. If you actually feel the power supply and it really is unusually hot, then thats a sign that the PSU is indeed faulty. However, the other issue could be the temp sensors in the PSU. Smart PSUs have temp sensing diodes in them to regulate fan speeds and if the diodes are no good or off by a good amount then that could also make the PSU "think" that it is running hotter than it really is in which case a new PSU would probably be your easiest way out of that as well.

also noted, if you go here you should be taken to a selection of PSUs on newegg.com that are microatx form factor and any of those should fit your case, just make sure you get one with enough power and from a good brand (i personally recommend FSP, i have one of their atx PSUs and so far all that has happened with it is that one of the fans made a sort of clicking noise so i took iit out and it still works fine with only one fan in :p )
 
I didnt look at the link, but the Aria PSU is a proprietary PSU. Its got a 120mm fan but at the rear its about half height.

send a PM to synaps3 and ask him about the PSU. He is an old friend of mine who usually only deals with mATX cases and knows a good deal about that case I'm sure. He could tell you what you need to get to replace yours.
