SO i am looking to mod my antec 900 fairly soon and i want to do something with the top.
Has anyone seen anyone mod the top in anyway? For the life of me i cant find anything
I have done a Mod my self, to my cousin's 900 case, which involved mounting a FrozenCpu 6 switch baybus in the tray area of the top, with the switches and LEd's pointing up, it involved removing the top piece mounting the template centered, drilling the holes and mounting the baybus, then Figuring out where the baybus landed on the Metal portion of the top, and cutting enough to make the baybus fit with no obstructions, and enough clearance to prevent shorts. some like the baybus some dont i personaly do, i have two in my Lian Li pcv2000 Controlling the 12 fans in my case, they only switch between Hi-off-low. Low is adjustable from 7v? - 10-11v, I personaly love the fan controller my self.
Sorry i cant get a picture cousin is away at collage
oh, ok thanks for the help.
i want to take off the top because it is pretty ugle, and i want t odo something for the first time, but i dont think i will be able to put back on the 200mm fan, unless i just put it on top, but that might not look too good. I was also thinking of replacing the whole top with falt mesh, and i could put fans on top of that,m that seems like a good idea but i would be losing the nice 200mm fan.
well both actuallly,
i know i want to remove the top, and the only complication i seeis the front plastic piece but i can sand that down to be flush with the rest of the case.
I want to remone the top, grind out a large rectangle and put mesh there, i would also like some other mod ideas
thanks
in that case let me introduce you to a good friend of mine. meet Google.
i'm not trying to be a dick, but i don't think "i want ideas" is going to get much much help of an appreciable quality. you know your tastes better than anyone, but you haven't said much about what you think would be a good mod.
as for completely replacing the top, i think that'd be difficult to make look good. it's really rough and ugly under the plastic piece. if you wanted to make the plastic look a little more like the metal on the rest of the exterior, you could try a simple paint job with some semi-gloss or possibly satin black. if you want to make the top (and/or front bezel) flat or completely different than the stock A900, i'd say fabricating custom pieces from acrylic is probably your best bet (at least as a working 'base' onto which you could attach mesh or whatever else you wanted).
but i'm not going to get carried away without knowing what you're going for aesthetically and functionally, and knowing what level of work you'd want to put into your mod. perhaps you could find an example of a case top you like (A900 or not), to give the rest of us an idea of what you're going for.
I've seen an iMon Ultrabay integrated into the pocket on the top. I've also seen an LCD screen integrated into the same space. Other than that, I think most people like the top which is why they get a 900 in the first place. Not a major mod but I covered the control panel in foam, and moved the controls to the front bays since my 900 sits on top of my file cabinet. Good luck!
ok, thanks for the input, im sorry if i wasnt clear on what i wanted the end product to look like.
Basically what i am aiming for is a clean mod that isnt too flashy (do not like antec 900s with lots of lights ex. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOe_ixnYJjA )
I would also like this to be functional airflow wise as my components put off a good amount of heat (q6600 at 3.6 but is cooled by water, will be ocing 3870 soon) and i like having as cool of a case as possible. I would not like to integrate my wc loop into the setup as it will be difficult to because of the size of the rad, and i like having the leaky pump outside of the case.
All in all i am looking for some mod ideas that will keep the design simple, clean, and yet different then and other antec 900 mod i have seen.
So far i am thinking of
full size, bolt on side window
front mesh painted dark grey
take out hd bays (only use one hd ill get a 3.5 to 5.25)
Paint insides dark grey, except side of hd rack thing
Paint the side of the hd thing fluorescent green, as with pci brackets
Take off top, cut out rectangle cutout, like this http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1206657
put mesh on there, integrate 200mm? two 120? confused here
paint the mesh on top grey
mod al fans with faint green glow, green mobo backlight
so those are my ideas, sorry for not being clear before, i know it was my fault
i was thinking about doing a fan control mod to my antec 900 as well. I want to have all three fans in the front, so i'm planning on doing a slim slot dvd drive mod the the bottom of the case as well.
I'd be interested in any pics or links for a fan controller/baybus mod to the top as well, if anyone wants to share.
