I've posted this in the ATI forums already but this does seem a better place to post.
Ive just got my new rig together- 9npa3U, 3800+, 2 gig Ram, 1900xtx, 2hdd, 1 dvd, aquastar 3k.
My power supply is an Antec 500w true power 2.0.
Thing is, whenever I start a 3d application such as FEAR, 3dmark, etc.. the power supply begins to make a high pitch squealing sound. Soon as the 3d app closes- the PSU quietes as well.
Another odd thing is as I OC the gpu core up and down the pitch of the squel changes!
Ive tried umpluggings everything down the mobo, ram, gpu, and 1 hdd to take the load off of her, but no help.
I dont know if my psu is getting ready to melt, or its no big deal. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

They dunk the transformers/inductors used in power supplies into varnish during manufacture, to hold the windings in place. Every once in a while a part won't go the full way into the potitng tank or sometimes a manufacturer will forget entirely... the loose windings and loose transformer core will "dance around" a bit and cause noise.

This doesn't cause any reliability problems, but it can be annoying as fuck.

Does the sound change depending on what you're doing on your computer? if so, this is your problem.

and since it is dependent on what load is on the supply with the 3d application
(kicking up the amps to the vidcard)
thats very likely the source, you can RMA it if its too annoying, or for the diehard DIYer do a little of your own varnishing if you can ID the part responsible

you can see the varnish on these transformers
