Hi guys. Recently I noticed that the fan form the power supply that came with my Antec 3700AMB case(or something like that, its a 350W Antec PSU) is getting extremely hot. The fan got a little louder and is blowing pretty much extremely warm air out the back. The rest of the case seems fine just a bit warm but when I touched the PSU it was crazy hot. I never really payed any attention to this before this may be normal but I really doubt it. What is happening to my PSU?

Its overheating.

Have you tried blowing out any dust that might be inside the PSU? I would give that a shot. Dust/dirt can make a psu die a hot death.

Antec 3700 series cases are warm enclosures to begin with, and I would not be surprised if your PSU has only a single 80mm fan. My Antec Smartpower 350S runs warm as well. If you're up to it you could swap the fan out for something with more cfm, and bend the stamped out grills perpendicular so they don't block so much air. I'm trying to find that thread on silent pc review with this mod to show you later.

btw most antec psu's run a little hot. Not sure if its because of the fan they put in them. Never really looked into it.

Beer shot out of my nose on that one. :D

You're talking about the SLK3700, right?

That 120MM should be pumping most of the heat out of the case. I would have to think it's NOT though if the PSU is getting that hot. The SL350 that comes with those has the fan over the CPU, so it's going to suck a bit of the ambient heat up as well. Problem is you end up with ambient temp + normal PSU temps = TOO HOT!

Make sure the 120MM in the back is spinning, not blocked or clogged with cat hair, dust, hair extensions and make sure you have a fan in the front spinning to bring cool air in.

If your power supply had a pair of 80's, one front and one back, you probably wouldn't notice that much hot air coming out of it... but then again your PC would probably be locking up too!

I've been drinking. Seems i might get some tonight

thanks guys. I blew some dust out still no luck though. The sound comes and goes. and yea I meant the SLK3700amb. I really dont want to put more fans because my bedroom is small and I hate to have a noisy computer. Right now it seems my PSU creates the most noise. What options do I have?

New PSU or new fan.

The 14cm SuperFlower PSU's are pretty quiet. http://www.directron.com/sf350stainless.html
