Trying Win7 RC 64-bit right now. There's a lot of little tweaks and things that have been improved since I tried build 7000.
But I still have one issue with Aero snap (the feature for snapping windows to the sides of the screen, e.g.)--you can't snap on the edge between two monitors on a multi-monitor setup
Hopefully this is possible, and I just missed this feature (Joe Average--any thoughts?); else I'll just have to be satisfied with the vertical snapping feature, which I must admit is pretty spiffy as well.
In any case, Win7 is quite worthy of all the attention. As an early Vista adopter, it pains me just a smidge to think that even despite the Benjamens I spent on Vista, Win7 has enough improvements to offer to not, well, spend more Benjamens to upgrade to it. Damn Microsoft!
Some other thoughts
1) Trying out virtual winXP right now. I have high hopes for this, especially given the fact that virtual pc 2007 really proved just how freaking amazingly a virtual pc could run, given the right technology. Results: hmm...doesn't feel any more or less snappy than winXP via virtual pc 2007. I even tried playing a 2d ship game which requires some amount of graphics acceleration; the performance was OK...but then again, it was also OK on VPC2007 winXP. Oh well, perhaps it is just VPC2007 repackaged into a legit copy of winXP to appease the masses (as opposed to a significant improvement in virtualization).
2) I remember reading some initial reports about microsoft not letting you disable grouping of taskbar buttons. This doesn't seem to be the case, as you can adjust this in the 'taskbar and start menu properties'. You can even tell Win7 to give you your long, rectangular taskbar window icons again, too (as opposed to the square ones with no names that you get by default).
3) Gosh, with all the tablet-pc oriented features, I really wish I bought a new tablet laptop.
4) Still no native support for different desktop backgrounds on different screens??
5) Biggest complaint: setting options in Win7 seems a bit too cumbersome. I feel like there's too many flashy menus/submenus with the most mundane information (do you really need all those separate menus for 'display'?). On the other hand, I feel like I have to fish to adjust settings for, say, adjusting aero snap (obviously I haven't found anything yet, and this probably isn't something you can adjust, or just my taskbar. Perhaps this is just because the UI is slightly different for Win7 than for Vista, and also because I've had my Vista customized since '07 so it's hard to go back and sort through settings/option menus again.
