Im debating on upgrading from a 7900gtx to a pair of 9600gt's. I still run a XP rig and kinda wanna give vista a go. I feel like the drivers and hardware out now are better designed for dx10 than what it was a year ago. Can anyone persuade me in any other direction or does this upgrade sound like solid decision. I got Crysis for xmas last year and my ole'gtx just cant handle the pressure anymore. My budget is set at $400max and any advice will be greatly appreciated. Im looking at 2 of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814261001

yea, but the price seems right on the 9600gt plus a $40 rebate on top of that. And from what I can tell the performance difference between the the 9600gt and 8800gt is only marginal. I also like the built in hdmi output on the 9600, either way I hope it will be a significant upgrade from the 7900. Thx for the quick replies.

If you have an SLI mobo than yah 2 x 9600GT is a good price for under $400. But, it also depends on what Res you plan on playing Crysis. I still can play Crysis at 1440 x 900 settings all on high on a single 8800GT card and it looks good on my 1920 x 1200 LCD.

I run a 1680x1050 LCD, and don't expect to play Crysis on high just something more playable than the lowfps the 7900 gives me. I plan on building a new rig next fall and dont wanna spend a whole lot on a gpu just yet, just somthing to hold me over and introduce me to dx10 and vista.

ooooo I like that 8800GT too.

man if only these prices were available when i bought my 8800gts, LOL! I payed 349.99 for mine, but luckily I am steppin it up.

In this case, the MSI NX8800GTS 512MB for $230 before rebate and $200 after MIR. You're good already. Guranteed you can play Crysis at 1440 x 900 with setting all on high for that game. I have this setting on my slower 8800GT video card in Vista. COD4 you can run all settings on high, UT3, TF2, Battlefield, Bioschock.

how you you didnt go for the 8800GTS's? because of the step up program offered by evga?

What SLI mobo are you pairing these bad boys in? Hehe. Looks like you will play Crysis on very high then? LoL

Yea the stepup was a strong selling point, and Ive had good luck with evga products in the past. Im also picky on how my hardware looks and that Gts just dident look good imo.

I have a 680i but plan on buying a 790 soon, once I get my tax return in.

It will do just fine on the 680i mobo. Man.. just stick with that mobo and get a 26" LCD like the DoubleSight DS-263N LCD later on. Goodness, with those 2 x 8800GTS O/C versions, games will look amazing at 1920 x 1200 with high settings and AA/AF enabled. You feel immersed in the game if your LCD is HUGE. Damn.

yea if you have an SLI mobo already why upgrade again? Btw, what do you do with your old motherboard? anyway maybe i could get it from you? I wouldn't mind arranging a price with you if you live locally (cali or washington) im in oregon.
