Hey everyone,

i was wondering if you guys could help me out with some temp readings and tell me if they are still in the "ok" range since intel isnt being to easy to get a hold of.. and i am a newbie with the newer intels...

my system
intel P4 650 3.4ghz HT 800fsb (prescott)
intel D915GEV board
stock HS & Fan
2x 80mm front fans
2x 80mm rear fans
1x80mm fan rigged into the intake duct. kind of like a "ram-air" for the processor..
antec 500w power supply

idle: temps are 34c cpu... and 26c for temp zone 1 and 2
load: 45-50c cpu zone 1 and 2 27-30c (depending on what app. or game i am running)

my wifes system
intel P4 511 2.8ghz non-HT 533fsb
intel D945GNT board
stock HS & fan
1x 120mm front fan
1x 120mm rear fan
1x80mm rear fan
1x80mm fan rigged into air intake duct
antec 500w PS

idle temps: 42c cpu 28-30c zone 1 & 2
load: about the same since she only runs business apps.. (word, excel. ect..)

where i am confused is why is her system running hotter then mine at idle? i am pretty sure her cpu is not a prescott.. and mine should be the one running hotter but not the case here.. i am using the intel desktop utilities to get these readings on both machines..

i cant even find any info on intels site about a P4 511 2.8ghz processor..

[Edit] I'm stupid

It is odd that her's is running hotter than yours. The HSF could not be making good contact with the processor. I believe the 500's are northwood.

i also thought about this being the problem and pulled the HSF and checked the thermal square on the HS it looked ok and i made sure it was locked in place.. is there a easy way to tell if it is not making good contact to the CPU? maybe a different thermal paste would help? i mean its not as though she is going to be putting alot of stress on it but id like to keep it as cool as i can..

oh also another thing that i am wondering is she is using the onboard video where as i am using an ATI x800 PCIE could it be that because she is using the onboard video it is putting more of a load on the processor then it is with mine? ( maybe thats a stupid question but i am just tossing ideas out there)

5XX are prescotts and your 6XX will run cooler than the 5XX because of better steping.
