Another Silverstone LC11 power supply question

This is on the same subject of the ps on my Silverstone LC11 that I had trouble with before (old thread here ). Back then I did get a Seasonic replacement and it's worked fine up until today when I found the HTPC had shut itself down overnight, and now the remote won't turn the HTPC on. When I do turn it on using the front button on the case, the remote acts flakey- mouse movement stutters and it doesn't register other button pushes from the remote easily (if at all). Last time this happened was just before my old PS crapped out on me.

I suspect that the voltage probably isn't within spec anymore (enough where the mobo can run but the IR remote can't) - I know there are power supply testers out there but I'm not sure how effective they'd be with a non-ATX power supply. Would it be worth my while to try a tester out on this power supply or is it a foregone conclusion based on it's behavior that it's on the way out?

Thanks!
David

The ATX spec includes both an electrical and a physical component. That PSU does not use the ATX form factor, but it does follow the ATX electrical specification. However, I recommend that you purchase a full-blown multimeter rather than a PSU tester, since that will allow you to get a much better idea of exactly how your PSU is doing. It shouldn't be too hard to find a half-decent digital multimeter for $20 or so. You can follow the instructions here to test your PSU with a multimeter: http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgpower/troubleshooting.html

Fantastic! I'll give this a try. Also I'll try to swap out a known good ATX PS just to power up the system to see if the IR remote starts behaving again. This should tell me for sure if it's the PS going out or if the IR is going bad.

Thanks!
David
